this is a fine dvd. the story line flashes back frequently but in a way that makes sense and does not intrude on the interest of the adventure, which ends tragically but, strangely, in a life-affirming manner. the boy and his family, especially his sister, go through his journey somewhat sympathetically, even though he dies. the parents grow in awareness of his needs and eventually transcend their own narrowness of vision. nature, raw and exciting, enlivens his journey. i loved the interaction between boy and nature.

There is nothing wrong with this movie, but it is not the movie we thought it was. We were buying it for my husband's job and thought it was the Ben Affleck movie about addiction. That is on us; we goofed, will watch it ourselves.
