I have been leatherworking for many years but usually cut my leather with heavy shears. I have been gradually moving towards heavier leather and the shears can't keep up. This is my first round head knife and I have to say it is going to be a great tool. I have yet to cut a project out but after several practice cuts, I can tell this is going to be a great way to get clean cuts in heavy leather.
Unlike most tools, this knife is not ready to work when you first get it. Plan on spending some quality time with sharpening stones and a strop to get a good cutting edge. When sharpened, this knife cuts through leather like butter. If you're having trouble, then your knife is too dull. Once sharpened, you should only need to maintain the edge with the strop and jeweler's rouge.
It takes time to learn a new knife. Practice before needing to make any critical cuts and by all means, keep your hands behind the blade at all times. If you are getting serious about leather craft, this is a good tool to have.Read full review
Same tool Tandy Leather sells. Good quality and good value. Makes many working with leather so much easier and neater. Saves time and material too. Great investment for anyone working with leather. Get one, you'll be glad you did!
