I thought I was a fairly good cook but this course made me realize I simply follow the directions of good recipes. Though I had acquired "skills" from doing, I really had no understanding of the "art of cooking." Everyone should be exposed to a course on cooking. I thought this course was wonderful!!!! It is stimulating and engaging. After watching the videos you will be eager to try out what you've learned. I've tried the recipes (and am VERY PROUD of the results)! My only regret is that I didn't buy this 30 years ago!

I buy the Great Courses series for my treadmill time. Instead of watching blaise tv, decided to fill my time in with information instead. Saw one episode of 'The Everyday Gourmet' so far, it made walking in place go by so fast. Also bought the side series on spices, will watch that one next; I can cook well, but want to blow the doors off everyone else at the potlucks or cake auctions (don't tell anybody, our secret, 'k?). I do that with my cakes already, but want to make it happen across the board. Figured between the GC series, Julia Child's French Cookbook, and tenacity, this New Year's goal will be achieved. And walking on the treadmill will remind me to keep the recipes healthy.

My Mom and I watched the videos together. Combined we have over 100 years of cooking experience, and we learned some basic techniques that no one had ever shown us before. This is a good resource for anyone who enjoys cooking, regardless of their level of experience
