As a horn player, this book is a great reference to our auxiliary instrument. Fortunately, the studio horn players for film score music helped tremendously in bringing this once near obscure instrument back to life as modern film composers began either seeking to combine it with standard horns for specific sounds or even scoring for it separately from horns. Now, because of this renewed attention to the instrument, Alexander, Schmidt, Hans Hoyer are all remaking these instruments and now, as double tuben in B-flat and F like the standard double horn. Not only these companies, but now Chinese copycat companies and now making them and they are actually very good as well!! The double tuben concept is new because originally, they were built in either F basso, or B-flat tenor. I believe the double build has been around for only 20 years or so, maybe a bit more, but not much. They truly do have a unique history of their own which fits in with the larger horn history but thanks again to the Hollywood studio horn players for resurrecting this instrument as it was headed for a museum display. Now, it's actually popular. Read full review
