This pedal accomplishes its basic mission, but with nothing to distinguish it from the competition, either in performance or price. In fact, some of its characteristics may make you wish you looked at alternatives. Or maybe, you'll love 'em.
The RCA pedal is as large as the model with corner hinge bolts sold by Yamaha, M-Audio, etc., but the RCA is even taller -- something not immediately obvious from the photo (which shows the underside of the pedal, not the top). It is plastic, rather than metal, so it is lighter, but at the possible expense of reduced durability. "Traction bars" are molded into the top. The case has no visible screws for disassembly should you need to clean or repair.
My biggest complaint is that the RCA pedal's travel seems excessively long. It pushes back with an inordinate amount of force, while switch actuation doesn't occur until the bottom of travel. If you routinely park a foot on the pedal but don't want to accidentally engage sustain, you might like it. Action seems a bit rough. Some reviewers claim there is a click noise when you actuate the pedal, but I detected none.
There is an UP/DOWN switch to control whether the pedal switch is open or closed when actuated, which is its one universally positive feature.
Overall, the height, travel, and force required by the RCA sustain pedal might be considered more like what is found on an acoustic piano. Engaging sustain requires a deliberate effort to press the pedal until it bottoms out, but might feel more natural if the switch was actuated nearer the top of pedal travel.
Came quickly! Worth it for it's price. I enjoyed plugging this into my keyboard and being able to use it like a real piano! It's also a good teaching tool for beginners. Highly recommend, easy, and simple.
