This is a very long post, but well worth it if you're seriously considering this game. Pros: First and foremost this game is a milestone in the both the MMORPG and online gaming industry. With over 11 million subscribers, it's the largest online game to date, and for good reason. The graphics, while cartoonish, indulge you in a moving work of art with flowing waterfalls, freezing tundras, and shadow-ridden caves. The world itself is simply huge (though surprisingly easy to navigate), spanning across four continents (one in outer space), and leaves the gamer with an unparalleled sense of citizenship. Once you log into World of Warcraft, you truly plug into a hidden universe. The music is truly worthy of mention. When you first launch the game, you are met with a symphony of heart-pounding drums, violins, bassoons, or what-have-you. The music/ambience then changes frequently throughout the game depending upon your current location and really adds an element of class to the experiences of stepping into a haunted mine, or riding up to the gates of a citadel. The gameplay ranges from simple to slightly complicated depending upon your class selection, but always maintains the smooth controls that are oh-so-user-friendly. You can select from 9 different classes at the start (another is available further on in the game), each of which have their own roles to fulfill by either Healing, Tanking (taking the hits for other less-hardy classes), or DPSing (DPS: Damage per second, a term used to explain classes adept at dealing damage). Also with the introduction of "dual-spec," a character is able to switch between two customizable talent builds (determines your main role: healing/tanking/dps, through the selection certain talents) at the drop of a hat. The most basic gameplay consists of leveling your character from 1 to 80 via the completion of quests, invading of dungeons, and slaying of monsters, all of which grant "experience," and move you closer to the next level. If you grow wary leveling, it is possible to "que" into a battleground from anywhere in the world. There are four different types of battle: capture the flag, protect the resources, defend/attack the keep, and control the territory. You compete against real players controlling real characters on different computers, which is typically referred to as "PVP," or player versus player. Once you have reached the maximum level, the fun has just begun. You will continue advancing your character by upgrading his or her equipment (or "gear"). Raids, dungeons and "heroics" offer thousands of powerful monsters that, when killed, give weapons and armor that strengthen your character. Dungeons and heroics are typically conquered by five players effectively working together to defeat the obstacles and creatures within. Raids follow a different suit, requiring 10 to 25 skilled players able to communicate and coordinate themselves in order to (hopefully) kill the most difficult monsters in the game. Another option to the post-leveling stage (or "end game content") is coordinated PVP. Beside the four available battlegrounds, the game contains four "arena" maps offering extremely competitive play in the form of 2v2, 3v3, or 5v5. If you are successful, the rewards are some of the most powerful upgrades in the game. Guilds, world events, seasonal events, mounts, professions, mini-games, parties, transportatRead full review
I used to watch my son play this game all the time but never tried it myself. I sure am glad I finally tried it out. Now I know why he loved it so much. Very addicting.

There is nothing to say but WoW and no pun intended. I myself am playing this as well as my three kids aging from 10 to 15. This would not be such a shock, but my kids are girls. The con list is short, but a couple of the notes may be important to some. 1) You have to pay to play, but this is not untypical for this game type. As a parant/purchaser you need to know that. This package comes with one month of free time. (see my hint at the end though) 2) It requires a good bandwidth connection or some other means to get game content. While the game can be played (without voip options mind you and bouts with lag) it is not nearly as nice if you do not have high speed. 3) Character creation has a lot to offer but is still limited when compared with other games of this type. Having multiple classes is nice, but you end up with a lot of characters looking a like or simliar. The lack of a height variation and width variation only adds to this. 4) Costs for expansion packs seems unreasonable considering the games monthly cost. Though they generally include lots of content. This package contains only 1 of 2 epansions, so active players will need to buy another package to get to the new max level and additional content. Ok, now for the good stuff which I will not even attempt to number... - Great questing with a great mix of quest types. While the questing does some things that keep the game moving from area to area as needed, it is not completely linear and you can select which quests you will follow. - Good graphics, but more importantly, a good 3d card and a fair amount of ram is all that's needed. The game may not look as good as others, but it's got great ability to scale from low to high end of pcs. This opens it up to more players than more demanding games. - Just plain fun. The game is addictive. Ofcourse depending who you are this could be a con. - While the profession system has some holes and times it seems to be not worth it, they are great. Each has benefits that can help your characters as you progress. - Great in game features like mail, auction house, ports, transports and other stuff like seasonal items. Well I could go on and on but I will not. This is an exceptional game in my opinion and I've played many many games of this and other types. Right now it is at the top of the MMO world. HINT: A really quick a hint on getting more out of the games free time. If you have another account or friend with an account, have them refer you. You then get a 10 day free trial. Note that you should put your code in from the retail game right away. If you don't the trial does not allow trading, mail usage and other things. It will add your free month on the end of the 10 day trial time so you will get 40 days of free access basically. Also note, if you had someone refer you, they get a free month of time added once you pay for one moth of play time. Depending on the program, they may get something for the 2nd month too, but it's usually not free time.Read full review
This was purchased for my teenage son. The graphic are really great. Enless character possibilities and each level is a new experience. There have been games that dont hold his interest for long... definitely not this one. If we would let him, he would get lost for days in the game. Parents...Online games are not my thing, but my son had been asking for World of Warcraft and we finally caved. It has been a fabulous tool to get him to accomplish his "jobs" around the house. The threat of loosing game time has been the best motivator we have found yet. The fact that he is paying $15 a month for something he isn't using if he is grounded from it helps. If you have one of those teens... like we all do, this may be just the thing for you too. My younger son also enjoys playing, when his big brother is grounded, it helps to motivate the teenager when he is watching his younger brother get to use "his game". enjoy.Read full review
This battle chest is a great deal for new players who know that they will enjoy the game and continue to play through all of its expansion sets. Otherwise, if you are just going to play for a short period of time don't invest money in it. Instead, just buy the original world of warcraft version. Overall, excellent! The chest includes the original wow and the burning crusade expansion set. You must purchase the new expansion, wrath of the lich king separately.
