    It s Redline gear oil. Second to none. For those who do not know, the NS means it is Non-Slip . In other words, it does NOT have limited slip additive. This is similar to products like Mobil Delvac 1, Chevron Syn-Gear, and other gear oils intended for large trucks. Limited slip additive is generally undesirable if it isn t needed. It oxidizes more easily, doesn t resist heat as well as the base oil, competes with the high pressure anti-wear additives that protect the gear surfaces, and is somewhat aggressive to some seal elastomers, like nitrile. The only differentials that need LS additive are limited slip units that use friction clutches. All other differentials do not require it, and in fact it is best to NOT have it present. Such differentials include standard open differentials, helical gear type limited slips, friction clutch type lockers like the Eaton Gov-Lok used in GM vehicles with the G80 differential code, mechanical locking differentials such as Detroit Lockers and lunch box lockers and selectable lockers including ARB Air Lockers, Eaton E-Locker, Toyota electric lockers, and others. GM specifically states that limited slip additives should not be used in the G80 because it can cause the locking differential to chatter or slip, and possibly wear prematurely. ARB states that limited slip additive should be avoided with their locking differential because it can reduce seal life. Others may or may not recommend against it s use. Regardless, it offers no benefit to any differential type other than clutch-type limited slip, or Posi differentials.
