I bought this CPU to revive my 10 years old PC as a secondary gaming computer for guests. Before I had a compatible 2 core CPU with a tiny bit higher clock rate in it, that worked still but was simply not enough for many games any more. After some research I determined that this model is basically the best CPU to get to upgrade Phenom II series (AM3 socket) old PCs with if you had a 2x core or 3x core before. The per core performance is no better but modern programs and games are much more able to take advantage of 4 threads. This is also black edition CPU for easy overclocking and, as it is downgraded 6x core CPU, it has turbo boost feature too. (Incidentally I would not suggest 6x core CPUs instead of this because their per core performance will be worse because of thermal limits and if you really need big paralel computing power just buy modern Ryzen for the same price, as x6 Phenom ii are still very expensive!) After this upgrade I am even able to marginally run ARMA3 on this CPU (just barely tho) which is really impressive for 10 year old CPU. It runs perfectly fine on stock AMD cooler, although I haven't tried overclocking it yet. Please note tho, that you should check your motherboards sported CPUs list before buying and it is possible that you will have to update to the latest BIOS (with the old CPU still in it!) before being able to boot with this as this CPU came out some after most old motherboards.Read full review

i had an old pc built for office work, from various spare parts. After upgrading ram next upgrade was this cpu as my buying target. Immediately after receiving it, i installed it and fit perfectly. The pc felt and was faster then. It had an increase by 50% in brute power after overclocking and one core more. It felt like a breeze. I believe for its price and performance ratio this cpu was a really good bargain. I strongly recommend it.

Good overclock with just four cores. Running it at 3.9GHz @ 1.5volts. Was unstable at 4.0GHz even with 1.53 volts (highest voltage my MB supports). Not gaming with it, just watching videos and surfing the net. Gets up to max 50 C at 22 C ambient using Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO. Might try to unlock the two extra cores with an underclock and see if that works, but for now it is running good. I marked it was not easy to install because the pins were badly bent and it took a lot of time to straighten them so it would seat right. None of them were bent over all the way, but they were all going in different directions...not easy to get it right!

Unlocked to 6cores, though unable to OC past 3.5ghz on all - stable. I think it has to do with heat issues and or PSU giving out when under stress/load for longer periods. Not to mention my setup was originally intended for HTPC so the rest of components aren't exactly high grade. Stock 4core OC to 3.7ghz easily without voltage, anything higher for me and temps cause throttling or shutdown. I leave it stock with turbo OC because I'm more careful of power consumption... This was a great buy for me in 2018 to game at 1920x1200 with a mix of high-low settings on non AAA titles, regular net surfing and MPC-HC + MadVR.

The CPU gave me no trouble. I wish that there was more overclocking information provided with it, but other than that it is up to the job. I mainly use my PC for gaming and I am using a GTX 650 Twin Frozr, and I get minimal to no bottle necking on it. The CPU itself is never forced to run over 75% and usually remains under 20% for daily tasks and office work. This CPU runs good with 8GBs of ram if you have the capable hardware.

I bought this CPU as an upgrade for my old file server that I gave to my dad. The original CPU (Athlon X2 450) was really struggling with the newer linux distro, and this is pretty much the top end CPU for the motherboard in place. The machine runs much better now. The upgrade was easy to install (thank you ZIF socket) and was detected flawlessly by the machine.

I bought the amd 960t because it can be unlocked to work as a six core processor. True to the reports it did unlock and I'm running it as a hex core processor. I ran benchmarks before as a four core and then as a six core and the benchmarks went up a lot. It's also an easy chip to overclock although I only went to 3.5 ghz with it and it runs cool compaired to my older cpu this replaced. All of my processors have run cold due to my cooling system but I notice a difference in the motherboard temperatures. I don't have cooling on the backside of the board (yet). I'm into video editing and this cpu along with an nvidia 460 allows me to compile the edits a little over 90 fps using cyberlink power director. I also noticed the nvidia dusk ultra demo shows the wings as being irridecent where my old cpu didn't. There are faster processors available but if you have the right motherboard this cpu will unlock and give you the bang for the buck. Make sure your motherboard supports bio-unlocking if you want the chip for that reason.Read full review
The particular motherboard I was in the process of upgrading needed as much power as it could get "without" adding the additional heat of a high wattage processor. This one fit the bill with perfection. The price was agreeable and the end results were pleasing.

The good: + Easy to overclock (mine went up to 4.2 GHz), especially on AM3 motherboards + 95 W TDP, so less theoretical max power consumption compared to other 125 W quad cores + Chance to unlock a 5th and a 6th core The bad: - Voltage remains the same in idle, leading to increased idle power consumption - Mine automatically disabled C'n'Q above 18.5 for the multiplier (had to raise the FSB to reach higher clocks _and_ keep C'n'Q working)

Added this to an old HP desktop I've had for 9 years. Then overclocked it with AMD Overdrive to 3.8 MHz. Along with a modestly good video card and pretty good graphics quality settings, I can play solid Fortnite now with my son on his playstation. If someone knows how to unlock the other processors via software, I'd be golden!
