  • Platinum or Iridium....impressed by both, can't tell the difference.

Hi, I have a 2003 Chevy Suburban and have had both platinum and iridium plugs....honestly can't tell the difference. Keep in mind I'm an old guy....still remember when you'd get 10,000 miles out of a plug and then it was time to change 'em. I remember going from a copper R44TS to R45TS to burn hotter to counter act my leaky quadrajet carb! So, for me, I stand in awe and appreciation that ANY plug can go 50,000 or 100,000 miles without need of replacement. My truck has 140,000 miles on it now. I notice it does idle a bit smoother after I change plugs but even the old 60,000 miles plugs didn't make my engine run rough....just a bit smoother with new ones. I'd say if you can get the iridium for about the same $$$ as platinum, go for them. But if platinum is half price, I wouldn't spend the extra for iridium. NOTE: My last ones were Bosch Platinum Plus (or maybe called Platinum X2), if that matters. Yeah, the ad men say it matters...but I've run straight platinum in our Toyota and got the same GREAT experience from them in that engine. It really is amazing how far we have come with these regular maintenance items. So even though I remember plugs for $0.79 each, I don't mind paying up to $5 per plug as they last so much longer. Now....if those engineers could have made those rear plugs on my Suburban easier to get to, that would have been GREAT too! ha! Oh, and coil per cylinder is a grand idea...until you have to replace 8 (EIGHT) coils on your truck!!! That gets expensive in a hurry!!! smile.
