Instead of requiring separate accessories, you’ll get all the telephone features you need in one machine with the reliability of a corded design for fail-proof calling. The AT&T CL4940 is white in color and comes with the telephone base with power adapter installed, a handset, a wall-mount bracket, a coiled handset cord, a telephone line cord, and an abridged user’s manual. The phone is designed so that when lying flat on any surface, the high-contrast display will sit up slightly for improved viewing angle. Nice phone for people with hearing or sight impairments
The phone is easy to use and helps me since I have poor hearing. I would have given it 5 stars except that people who call say my voice seems low. I’m not sure if it is the microphone in the handset or some other problem? Anyways, I’m keeping the phone because it is super easy to store numbers and has great sound when I listen to a call. Many good features
I mistakenly thought that this system ANNOUNCED the caller ID, which it does not -- but in other respects, it does the job very nicely. The sound quality is acceptable, and large buttons and backlit display are very user-friendly. The "missed calls" feature is confusing: sometimes it does not add a missed call to the total, and sometimes it subtracts from the total. There does not seem to be a way to clear this back to "zero". Exactly what I was looking for
I love this phone! All the features work beautifully. It stores all my important numbers plus a speed dial for more frequent calls. The numbers are large and the display is well lit. I'd given it a 5 star but for one small issue which has nothing to do with how the phone operates. The phone comes with a device that allows the phone to sit at an angle so to more easily see the display. Using this device is optional. It's located too low on the phone, making the phone top heavy so when you try to push the buttons it tips over. It takes two hands to use the phone if that device is used. I use it as it's easier to read the display when the phone is propped up at an angle. As I said, using that device is optional. I'm sure if the phone sits flat there would not be this issue. CL4940 Inferior to the Older CL4939 Model
No dim adjustment for the orange backlit screen; the orange is too bright making text hard to read. Some buttons are too small; I can hardly read their text on them. CL4939, an older model, has better sound controls, bigger buttons, and easier configuration menu than CL4940. The 25 directory memories are too little; part of the 25 is the 10 speed dial numbers (i.e., 10 speed dial numbers + 15 directory memories). In CL4939, they have 10 speed dial numbers + 25 directory memories. CL4940 is inferior to CL4939 except for the backlit screen.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Mine is definitely worth the money
I bought the PHONE for a friend. So I don't know yet how that one is working. Mine is several yrs old and great. The gifted CORDED phone is same model as my corded only phone I threw out all my cordless phones cause of the danger of cordless and wireless stuff. but it be nice if Caller Id etc would work during a power failure. so it runs off electricity. but be nice if it could run off batteries too...either or.. but you can at least dial out and answer calls. CL4940 is a redesigned phone from the older ones that are no longer made.
Actual telephone system works. 1. Box was open and parts were missing. I used cords from a CL4930 phone which I had for many years. #2 is related to #1. 2. The manufacturer of this CL4940 is much cheaper made and lacks some of the features of my older phone. #2 is related to #3. 3. This phone needed a part to be snapped on to its back to hang phone on the wall. 4. As for its handset being comfortable is wrong question. When this phone is hung up on the wall and the receiver is placed up into it - IT FALLS OFF EVERY TIME! Therefore it loses its purpose of being a wall phone. 5. To keep the receiver on the base, a rubber-band is needed to wrap around the entire system near the top of receiver to keep it in its cradle. 6. The instruction sheet does not help to setup directory or speed dial information. It is a composite of CL4940 and CL4930. It misses the mark in Directory and Speed Dial area for this actual phone of CL4940. Setting up is difficult.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Best speakerphone for the price.
The display is what makes this phone awesome. There is no internal battery to keep the screen alive, so the AC power adapter must have power. The handset is easily knocked out of it's cradle, so I would not recommend wall mounting. Great Phone for General Use.
I'm really enjoying this phone. It is easy to set up, the answering machine is excellent, and the large numbers are a plus for this Senior Citizen. Works great, I can hear the other party
For some time I was using a Clarity phone that did all the things the AT&T unit does but did not have a caller ID. This one helps me with my mild hearing loss by making voices loud and clear but also lets me know if I want to hear what is calling. Handset cradle design needs improvement
Overall the build, and features are great and initial programming is straight forward. There are some issues with resetting' missed calls' count for example. The big issue is the cradle is too shallow to properly secure the handset while at rest. In the horizontal position the slightest brush with the phone will dislodge the handset (not enough weight?) from the phone platform. Not major but annoying.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
