A man wakes up in the hospital under shady circumstances, with no real memory of how he got there... I was first introduced to these books as a child; in 1970, when the first book came out, I was 6 years old, and had been reading on my own for a couple of years. One of the hardest things I've ever had to do was to wait until the next book in the series came out, and then the next, and then the next! The storyline was so different from anything I'd ever read before; the tone was definitely Sixties. Very attention-getting and -holding! Having finished the first five books, I was left wanting more. Several years later, Roger Zelazny delivered, with the second set. The tone was completely different, with the introduction of the previous books' main character's son. Yet the flavor, the exotic spice, was still there! The perceptions of the main character of the second series were so much more modernized, although similar to, everything that had gone before. As with the first set, I waited impatiently for each book. Having them all published under one cover was wonderful. There was no sense of interruption as I read them all in sequence. I'm planning on having the book hardbound at my local college so that I can enjoy it for years to come!Read full review
I was very impressed when I first read Zelazny's Amber series in Russian language. Author has such a writing manner that makes you read and re-read it over again and you get a deeper impression each time. The translation to other languages has its disadvantages and you never can translate some aspects and scenes of the book the same way as it sounds originally. Here in Russia we have several translation attempts, and they are all not alike, some good, some not much. That's why I purchased this great book of all times in original language and I look forward when they finally make the Hollywood Movie based on Zelazny's Amber stories.
Long before Game of Thrones, I was enthralled with the world of Amber. It's an excellent combination of a Sword and Sorcery tale blended with the modern world, and talk about your sibling rivalry! The characters are compelling and the concept is unique, this would make such a good TV series with today's CGI abilities, but as it is it makes for wonderful escapist reading. I had all ten paperbacks at one time, but lost due to a flood. Now, to have them all in one volume is very convenient. I would highly recommend them, and all of Roger Zelazny's other work, to any fan of great fiction.

This is a classic from early SF/Fantasy period. The first book of the series was published in 1970, and the last in 1991. Nice to find all ten books in one bound copy.

I’ve really enjoyed the story and the multiverse aspect seemed to be way ahead of its time. Plus, 10 books in 1!
