  • Great external hard drive

Great storage and compact able to stand on its side with micro usb and power ports. Having over 5 TB on this device is fantastic.. I'm using it for my games on my Xbox One while portioning it with my computer programs and pictures. Quiet with quicker downloading and uploading speed

  • Best External Drive Out There For The Price

I've ordered 4 of these and I'll swear by them. I've had Seagates and Toshibas fail on me, but never one of these. They plug and play right out of the box, and as long as you have them connected through a 3.0 USB port, you can get transfer speeds between 120 and 180 mb per second. Actual size is 5.45tb for a 6tb drive, which is normal for those of you who don't know. (In general, you can take off roughly 10% of any drive from any manufacturer.) They're reliable, quiet, efficient, and an absolute bargain. The only drawback is they're upright, which puts them in danger of tipping over if you bump the table or desk they're on... but that's easily avoidable by placing something on each side as a bookend of sorts. Additionally, you can pop the outer casing open, remove the drive, and pop it into your computer internally as well if you so choose. (I did that with 2 of them.) All things considered, if you're looking for external storage, you can't beat these regardless of what size drive you choose. Purchase with confidence.

  • Great deal and good product.

I have this plugged into a cheaper TP-Link router for use as NAS storage, and it works great. It shuts itself off after ten minutes but it appears to have limited caching because you can still browse the directory tree as it wakes itself up. Super quiet, works wonderfully and has good speed.

  • Purchased for the price. Works so far. Download speed slow. At this time would purchase it again

Had to contact Western Digital re startup. Needed to download software to get it to function. Only have it a short time. Using it to backup a backup. Took 36 hrs to download 1.6 gigabites of files using windows 10, a little bit slow.Re compactness-- It is approx 4 times the size of my passport, 2 terrabites. Approx 4"x4"x2" Not a problem.

  • Good value for the money, nice balance of capacity vs. cost

This external hard drive works just fine. It came preformatted with the exFAT file system; I just had to reformat it to NTFS to make it more widely compatible with my systems, although for whatever reason Windows XP sees the drive but will not assign a drive letter to it for access (my older 6TB WD My Book works just fine with XP, also formatted with NTFS). So -1 point for that compatibility issue. Still, it works just fine with Linux (once it had the NTFS system) and Windows 7. Quiet drive and very good transfer speeds. This particular drive has no power/activity light, so when it's plugged in it still visually appears to be off (my older drive does have that light). It's good value for the money, even being refurbished, so as long as it remains reliable in the long term it's well worth it. The power supply comes with numerous different plugs so it can be used with electrical systems all around the world.

  • Good quality/price

Easy to setup with plug and play feature. Large capacity allowing you to store anything you want. Transfer rate is excellent if you use the 3.0 USB.

  • WD 6TB external HDD

I purchased this due to the rising cost of data space on my Xbox One. (it has the internal 1TB SSD). 1TB is great if you only play the same 15-20 games in rotation. but, I have gaming ADD. I need variety. which is why I have Xbox game pass. and that's where this HDD shines. I've got almost 200 (yes that's two hundred) games installed amd I still have roughly 3.6-3.8 TB of free space. it's compact enough to sit near the Xbox, quiet and black enough to not really be noticed. I use a PC monitor instead of a TV to play Xbox, so I just set the HDD behind the monitor and enjoy the library of games I now have installed thanks to this external hard drive.

  • Excellent Product!

If you are using Dish Network this is an essential product for added storage. My device without this back-up was using 59% of the storage om my Hopper Sling. Once I transferred a large majority of my shows to the back-up drive it used only 6% of the drive space. Easy set-up if you contact Dish Customer Support who will guide you through the process. This device is a must have if you record a lot of shows.

  • Does the job, somewhat bulky

After losing a lot of data from computer crashes over my lifetime, I was thrilled to learn about externals big enough to hold all that data. My first was a Toshiba 1tb. It's like an extension on my computer. It's now full, but there's never been a delay between saving/accessing the data. This one has a delay, sometimes annoying long. You can hear it booting up. Not particularly loud, but you know it's working. I go to save a pic, you hear it turn on, wait a few seconds for it to load data, then it saves. It's bulkier than what I'm used to. My Toshiba is something I could just slip into a pocket and go. Light enough you might forget it was there. This thing is not an easy grab and go, takes a portion of my desk. It's supposed to sit upright, which makes me wary of knocking it over. I don't know if it can be used without the power cord (I'm assuming that's for the fan?), I haven't tried it. But that limits what I can do with it. Toshiba, just plug into USB port and tada! This has both USB and power cord. With limited outlets, that's a pain. And if you're taking it places without one.... Overall, not a bad product. I easily transferred my data over to it. I've been saving and accessing the data with only slowing starting issue. It does what it's supposed to do.

  • Great Drive. Almost gave it 5 stars.

I absolutely hate bright LEDs on drives, but that is no excuse to refrain from including an LED at all. If this drive had a rather dim LED inside the case, such that it could be seen by my looking top-down through the air vents, it would have satisfied me. Another issue is that I own other WD My Book drives that have metal cases and they are superb. This black plastic case looks okay for now, but it won't be as long-term durable as a metal case. Otherwise the drive is very fast (169MB/s tested on my 2015 15" MBP via USB3 hub) and very quiet. It does vibrate on my glass-topped desk a little bit, but it's not too disturbing unless the room is absolutely quiet. All said, I love this drive and would have given it 5 stars had it come with an LED (dimly lit) and a metal case like older models. If I had a choice between a metal case and the LED, which would I choose? Hard question, but probably the dimly lit LED. Without that, you cannot know what's going on with your drive!
