good with some reservations
I am a repair tech for a major hotel chain. I use the non contact voltage detectors on a daily basis. I was looking for one that would pick up low voltage to troubleshoot the A/C systems at work. This Nieko has worked very well for me in detecting the 24V signal for the thermostats. It also works for higher voltages that I work with 110V, 220V, 480V... The only reservation that I have is that when checking voltages of 110V and higher, the Neiko alerts very early...by that I mean you can be 3 to 4 inches away from the live wire and get an alert. When you have several wires in close proximity to each other this sometimes makes it more difficult to perceive which wire is hot or which breaker is live and which one is not. I think this may be a design compromise based on the fact that it will detect the lower voltages. So overall it is a good useful tool and works well in most situations. I wish there was a way to select the sensitivity level between high and low voltages.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Very sensitive, sometimes rings approx. 4 inch from wires, detects 5V and above.
Very sensitive, detect 5V in phone charging cable connected to computer USB. Great little inexpensive tester
This is a good value, and works. It will sense current through the wall and makes tracking down dead plugs easy. Often current is chained from plug to plug and if one plug loses connection it can kill the current flowing to all other plugs and switches downstream from it.
