Although I got this for a good price on EBay, I think HP charges too much for inks. This is the only reason for the 4 star rating. But if you have an HP printer, the XL cartridges are a better value; you can print nearly twice the pages, but the cartridge costs only ~ 25% more than the standard ones. I have tried several alternatives - refilled and self-refilled. The purchased refilled cartridges clogged within a week. The ones that I filled myself using a kit were okay if I didn't print photos, because the colors were off. If you only print text and the occasional plain-paper graphic, the refill kit is more economical, if you don't include your labor of filling them and then cleaning up the inevitable mess. I just bite the bullet and pay the higher prices for the genuine article.

No problem with cartridge itself, and it is working fine; however, expiration date was August 2020, so I'm hoping that it doesn't dry up or run out sooner than it would with a more distant date. I am really disappointed that with a recent update I can no longer use generic ink cartridges, since the HP brand I've had to buy since do not seem to print anywhere near the number of pages advertised, and cost considerably more.

Though HP inks are good and the XL (extra large amount in the same-sized container needed for whichever printer one has) is the better bang for the buck, ALL inks are way over priced. There is no way the tiny amount of ink in the little cartridges is worth $30 - $60!! However, those of us with printers always need inks. This being said, go for the xl inks, unless you rarely print anything. In time they could eventually dry out. The regular cartridge is SO short-filled with ink...and they won't print many pages. Before you know it, you're spending $20-some, or more!, for another chincy amount of ink. So add a few more dollars to your spending and get an XL....it does last much longer. Example: HP 61XL black ink would be a search term...but again, the number of the ink has to be for your printer requirements.Read full review

This is the type of cartridge that works with my HP printer. The XL makes it special--I enjoy coloring and the XL gives me a lot more coloiring pages! Of course I use it for letters, too. I have installed it, it's easy to do, and works great!

Don't you hate it being late at night when you discover that you've run out of ink while trying to print something you needed ? I ran out of ink as I was printing information for my wife who is hospitalized out of state and had to rush out first thing in the morning and overpay for ink just because it comes in a fancy printed box ! I now have both Black & Tri Colored cartridges on hand and will buy more once I open and use these two as I don't want to overpay again just to pay for the fancy boxes !
