Good statin, but wind speed not accurate
I have always wanted a "full function" weather station . I have owned other Lacrosse products, but more basic models. This setup allows you to put the wind and rain sensors further away from the base, because both communicate with the temp/humidity module. Only it communicates with the base station. Everything synced with no problem, but you MUST follow the sequence of setup in the manual, or you may have problems. I have had the station about a month, and every thing seems accurate EXCEPT the wind speed. Even in a heavy storm with 30 MPH winds, the highest it has ever shown is 8MPH. I may just have a bas sensor, but have not had time to contact the company. There is one other feature I don't particularly like. The bezel around the base station display is HUGE! This causes it to be much larger than needed, so it will take up more room wherever it is placed. It is not removable, so instead of an 8 inch display, this one is over 12 inches wide. My final comment is about the rain sensor reading. it uses a 24 hour rolling time frame, you cannot set it to a calendar day, so comparisons with weather reports to check accuracy are difficult. I vote for a calendar day reading on the rain gigue. This setup was a great value, and overall I am happy with the performance, I cannot yet speak to battery life, but since the wind sensor is solar powered, and on the roof, that will not be an issue. Dated model but still the best IMO
I love this weather station. Yes, it's a bit of a pain to set up and the display is not colorful but the info. and the ability to reset readings is awesome. Having the info. display on my TV screen is fantastic. The Heavy Weather app is just great. This model is probably 8-10 years old but it way better than a Acu-rite WS that had a pretty display but was inaccurate as could be. Tedious to set up
Lightning wiped out my Oregon Scientific weather station. It was wired and I found it far easier to set up -- just plug in the wires. All the weather stations I could find to replace it were wireless. Wireless sounds good until it won't work until you carefully follow the manual instructions. I suspect the reason C86234 is no longer available new is that there software is poor. C86234 came with batteries, but they had all gone bad. I was concerned about where I put the sensors (not on the roof as the wired unit was) because of the need to replace batteries. However, the battery life seems to be good. Even the display unit has only battery power, because the display is only front lite LCD, its battery drain seems low. To get archiving to my computer, the computer display must be active, and there seems to be the need to "repair with base station" frequently.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Refurbished

Nice Station For The Price
Last check, La Crosse did not sell these new but refurbished. MFJ was selling this unit new. This is far superior to the Acu-rite 5 in 1 units which I also own. The 5 in 1 cannot keep the ambient temp correct, even after adding the $35 optional solar cell upgrade! One problem with this unit was the rain gauge that stopped working where the 5 in 1 rain gauge works well. I've ordered a refurbished unit to replace/repair the rain gauge. I would have given a 4 1/2 stars but it wouldn't let me. Great product for the price but the only draw back, it doesn't light up to see in the dark. That would have been a great add for the unit. Want to be a weather man or a forecaster?
Got this in the mail early which was nice. Wrapped it up and put it under the tree Christmas Eve. Product is pretty much as advertised. I got everything all set up and working in less than 1 day. Only problem was the sky were cloudy for the last two days. So I could not get the solar panel charged up by sunlight alone. I had to set it up on my table and put a flashlite on a tripod to charge up the solar batteries. Been getting some really good stats so far. Limitations
1 you must press a button to see gusts then again to go back to wind speed 2 U have syncro with a computer every time iU turn on the computer. 3 some headings are way too small. 5. The wind speed and gusts has a large numerical for the tenths of MPH all others have a smaller numeral for the tenths.
