  • Pair with HP SAS Expander and cost per port ~ $4.50

Simply update to latest firmware. Old firmware isn't compatible in many use cases. Get an sff-8088 to sff-8088 cable and plug directly into the external port of the HP SAS expander (yes it works and works perfectly). ignore all the statements about the external port being dedicated for tape drives. Simply add sff-8087 to SATA FORWARD cables (for direct connection from SAS expander to SATA hard drives) or sff-8087 to sff-8087 cables if connecting to a sata backplane. Boom! $4.50/sata port. Not Ideal if using solid state drives. Each SATA port will be 3Gb/s and NO spinning drive exceeds this. Maybe hitting 150-180MB/s, well below the 300MBps that SATA II is capable of. NOTE: big "B" Mega Bytes.

  • Great HBA

This came with the P13 firmware with no bootrom. The card was being installed in a machine that already had an LSI SAS 9211-8i HBA flashed to IT Mode for use with FreeNAS It was running on the latest P20 firmware as that primary HBA. For me to get the system booting up and running as I wanted, I had to install the LSI SAS9201-16e in the first Gen 3 PCI-E x8 slot followed by the LSI SAS 9211-8i HBA in the second slot on my Tyan S5510GM3NR motherboard. The LSI SAS9201-16e is SAS2116 based HBA whereas LSI SAS 9211-8i HBA is a SAS2008 based. The slight differences were the only thing I could attribute to this oddity. They work perfectly together and give me access to my currently 8 installed 4TB drives and the possibility of future addition of drives externally.

  • Great for z420 server and DAS

This was exactly what I was looking for. 4 ports and the seller set it up with the latest firmware. Thanks! I used this in an HP z420 server for a DAS system.

Works like I wanted too after flashing the bios and firmware. But this is an odd use for the card so no worries. Thanks for a good card and pcb

  • Excellent and fast SAS card

This SAS card is my introduction to the world of SAS and it has been an eye opener coming from the slow world of SATA. Speeds over 4x as fast using the SAS-SATA breakout cables.
