A word of warning about this dvd: it is not a concert disc or a collection of videos. It is rather a documentary on the early days of Nirvana & the making of the land mark album "Nevermind". It gives a track by track account of the production, recording & mixing of the album. It does this through interviews w/ Butch Vig (at consule) & Dave Grohl & Kris Noveselic among others. There are snippets of live performances & a section on the "Smells Like Teen Spirit" video. This is a great dvd for music fans. I also own the U2-"Joshua Tree" & Phil Collins-"Face Value" dvds from this series & find the Nirvana one to be the best w/ a bevy of extras.
I like that you can hear from Krist Novoselic, Dave Grohl, and Butch Vig, the producer of this superb album, how this was conceived, done, and dealed with afterwards. It's not one of many unofficial stories of Nirvana, but memoirs of the people who was there, musicians, producers, engineers, executives, etc. It also pretty entertaining to listen, all those anecdotes and fun stories that this people tell. It's just overall, very good, revealing and interesting even for the non Nirvana fan. I recommend it.
Nirvana is my favoritee band so I'm not sure I am te one who should review this DVD. There is extensive behind the scenes footage of the making of the nevermind album. Butch vig (the producer) shows how he used 2 or more guitars an the songs. It also tell the story of one o the best nirvana songs, "Polly". The story changed kurts ideas of rape and he decided to write a song about it. All in all, I would give this DVD 10 of of 10!
