Eye opener, tearjerker, and triumph!
Just as much, as you fall in love with the girls, and the women in this movie, you feel what they want you to feel, they set the stage, as if you were there, you understand them, I can't imagine any other girls, or women playing these rolls, they did an amazing job. The men in this movie, do such a good job, at making you dislike them, to almost pure hatred! My heart went out to these women, and I longed to slug the men! This movie depicts what is supposed to be a simpler time, and it was, but no better, women back then lead a life of hell, at the hands of unfit men, who didn't know any better, but I love how sweet the revenge was, and how pure the love was, and the scenery, it really takes you to another time, and place, there is not much left anymore. Outstanding performances and story.
I've always loved this movie. Whoopie stole my heart in this role and after watching it recently, I saw in the credits "introducing" Whoopie Goldberg. So apparently this was her first movie role. Oprah also has a great part and is very impressive as is Danny Glover. Excellent Black film.
I ordered this film during Black History month. I found this film very informative about the plight of Black people in the South, and how women were treated as 2nd class citizens. The quality of the DVD was excellent, however I was disappointed I was required to flip the disc in mid film, to view the rest of the movie. 11 Academy award nominations and not a single win. Figured out you have to flip the DVD over

Never saw this movie from the very beginning, So I thought now I have the time why not order it. I enjoyed it. I thought the actors did a wonderful job as the characters in this movie.
