  • Effective and long shelf life

This is the only product I trust to accurately test my aquariums. Pros: -Extremely credible, pinpoints the exact amount of present ammonia. -Long shelf life (bought in 2016, expires in 2021) -Bright colors are easily readable by the viewer Cons: -Doesn't differentiate between NH3 (ammonia), and non-toxic NH4 (ammonium), so if you're using a product that converts NH3 to NH4, you'll still get a toxic reading on your color chart. You can bypass this by checking your parameters a day or two after you do your water changes, as your bio-filter would most likely have processed the NH4. You can also try leaving out a (treated) barrel of water for a few days, as many of the toxins would dissipate, and the water would be ready to add to your aquarium without the false-positive readings. Overall, it's a great product, and I'd recommend it to any aquarist!

  • Best on market!

I was afraid to use a test kit but my pond care guy recommended this one and said it was really easy. It was! I’m ordering another one. The directions were easy and the sample color card was very easy to follow.

  • Works well

I originally got an ammonia tester that you leave in the tank. Small rectangle device w suction cup. Small circle in center changes color from yellow to dark blue to measure ammonia level. It worked for a week and that was it. So I bought this "real" test kit which works fine. Fish are happy that I now know for sure when to change water in tank.

  • You must have this test!

This product is very nicesary for fish aquarium and I would recommended everybody to have it handy because you cannot assume ammonia level untill you measure it, and this product gets the job done. The only thing I would love from API company to do is to change the color code as colors are very close to each other specially for beginners!!

  • Expert tests

This is great for testing both aquarium and tap water. It tells you the unfortunate amounts of ammonia in the water you test. It will last a very long time with 130 tests. I have tested water from the tap, in the aquarium, from the hose, every sink and water that has been distilled, boiled, left to sit out and frozen. I was horrified to find the ppm in all but the water frozen for 8 days. Now to find a remedy!

  • Essential tests for a new aquarium.

I always keep 3 separate test kits available for my aquarium. Ammonia is the first chemical to develop in the water followed by Nitrite a few weeks after the aquarium has been working, both chemicals kill fish so it is necessary to keep the aquarium in check. Nitrate is the final chemical produced in the aquarium after 6 weeks, it is normally kept in control with a 20% water change monthly, Nitrate is only deadly in high concentrations to fish. These 3 kits will let you know when the aquarium has fully cycled.
