  • Good slide/film scanner

I scanned a few hundred slides with my Epson V700 previously. I rescanned a few dozen, and the results were significantly better. Way better dynamic range, much better sharpness and detail. Also part of the truth is that the output of the scan was in TIFF format, and I played around with it in PS then in LR, which really is a time consuming activity. Otherwise, if you want to proceed with scanning, results are also quite good when the output is JPG. The bundled software (Silverfast 8.1) did not convince me of its usefulness, so I purchased Vuescan (which is somewhat easier and it also yields TIFF format, which is a great plus, if you want to get the most of your scans). I think the scanner is easily worth its price, I recommend buying it, though it's obviously not for getting professional results (just the way 24x36 format isn't it either)!

  • Great piece of kit for bringing life to old formats

With the Silverfast 8 software, it's easy to get totally absorbed in fixing old slide and negative images.
