Why did I buy one? I had a Mi-Fi for awhile but the old unit was breaking down. After having the unit for a week now my general impressions are as so. It's a nice clean package. It's smaller than a Iphone. Easy to carry and the battery life appears to be around 3 hours with this unit. But I could probably tweak the screen settings and maybe get a bit more from it. Speaking of the screen it is bright and colorful. Almost a waste considering there's no videos or way to change the background. Drawbacks. Unless you get the fancy headset with the built in antenna you are not going to be able to listen to live XM without a external antenna. But you can record a 100 hours of various XM channels so just remember to record a channel every night and that's no problem. Home and car kits are expensive. Approx. $20 to $45 as I type. However I did find a kludge for that. My old My-Fi accessories fit and work with the Xmp3i. You just have to cut off the two mounting pins on the connectors and the Xmp3i fits right on that. However the on-board transmitter in the Xmp3i doesn't work this way. Some proprietary circuit in the car kit. BUT. A $3 external transmitter fixed that problem. Other problems appear to be is that the package appears to be a bit flimsy. One good drop looks like it would destroy it. At least damage the screen. So I did buy two bad Xmp3i units for a dollar and I'm keeping them for parts. And the XM to go music manager software is usable but a bit basic. Added a 8gb micro sd card so it would work as a 8gb mp3 player as well. Also the stored XM radio files are encoded and are not transferable off the radio. I'm afraid you'll be stuck playing the songs into your computer sound card and making your own mix tapes that way. So in general if you wanted to get a XM radio for general use and in the health club or other fitness activities it's a suitable candidate. But if you have a Smartphone and unlimited data just getting the XM app for the phone may be cheaper.Read full review

Satellite radio downplays use of the recordable MP3 player. So get em while you can. I record content for listening when out of range of satellite and in lieu of streaming. Easy to use and convenient compact size with great rechargeable battery life.
