Choose these for 78 Tele, Didn't want to modify head stock.
These fit and installed on my 78 Telecaster with no permanent modification. I saved the old original tuners and screws if it is ever desirable to go back to stock. Love these tuners for the Hip Shot locking feature and the tuning is precise and stable. Best of both worlds. Advantages of modern locking tuners and no new holes in the old headstock to hide or even repair. This UMP kit was the only product I could find that could do all that. Hipshot Staggered Locking Tuners with UMP Plates
These Hipshot staggered locking tuners with the Universal Mounting Plate (UMP) are amazing! With the UMP plate, I didn’t have to drill any excess holes in my Warmoth neck. The neck had 10mm tuner holes and these fit perfectly. Great product and will be using these now on all my guitar builds.

Great Locking Mechanical Tuners
I bought a used knock-off Strat with the worst tuners I have ever seen. I ordered these Hipshot inline 6 locking tuners in an effort to make the guitar playable. Wow, they work! UMP not so universal
Did not fit my 9/16" thick headstock and the UMP is not so universal as it did not fit the 1 1/8" tuner spacing of my guitar. They look well made but I will never know due to the fact they are useless for my application. Not worth the time and expense of returning so these will go down as a "live and learn" waste of money.
