  • Harmonist PS6

Actually if you play with the balance knob and harmony knob that control how much high octaves and low octaves and keys of various harmonies with the blend in guitar you can get this thing to sound kinds like Brain May's 3 part harmonies. You have to fiddle with it for days by your self and write down your settings....there a lot of bad ones and tracking can get loss if you add to much octaves or balance...play with it and experiment. I got at least 4 great harmonies. Example - I have it in F mode for instance and play in the C position on guitar and can get this to play a convincing double lead on one guitar in Bad company's "Cant get enough of your love" ...it will work with things like "the boys are back in town"...etc. Work with it and take your time .Remember the trick is in the first knob and then find the best other settings that holds the harmonies in the best keys you choose. Not all of them will work great but like I said you can get steady 3 note and even two note harmonies to sound convincing enough to get by easy. Listen to alotta Queen for a starting point and try to match some of those harmonies and experiment in the different keys and minor and major positions ...and then write down the settings that sound good to you. Being patience is the trick here. It took me a couple of weeks to get nice things out of it. But it was worth it. P.S. if you haven't got the patience to give this pedal...then it's not gonna work for you.

  • Nice Effect, Well Built..

Nice effect, a bit complicated to fully utilize on stage though. The features are great, but the controls are small and hard to see on a dark stage, I think this would be more user friendly if it were to employ "smart tech" as some other brands are experimenting with, but BOSS is well built and a reliable name. It offers a few more capabilities compared to others and if you don't mind not being able to see it in the dark, I recommend it as it is a relatively inexpensive enhancement to your existing guitar rig..

  • Good tracking, gteat features, but slow response

The pedal works well and tracks well in harmony mode, clearly based on the same technology as their octaver; however, it's noticeably slower with appreciable lag when playing fast runs. If you bought it for recording that probably doesn't matter, but for live use it might not be acceptable depending on what type of music you play. With my spanish style lead stuff, it actually sounds ab it like a harmony with a slap delay added in places

  • Detune function works best for me.

The harmonizer function didn't do what I had hoped. Sounds good and works fine but really couldn't get it to do what I wanted. Maybe it will work for you. Has a fine sound. However, I found that the detune function provides an excellent sounding chorus/flange. I'm using that and liking it very much. The whammy pedal effect also works very well and is quite usable. Gonna keep the pedal. As with all Boss devices, it has a great sound.

  • Lots of Options in One Pedal

The Boss PS-6 is an interesting pedal because it can function as a pitch shifter and octave pedal, detuner (almost mimicking the shimmer of a chorus effect) and a harmonic pedal with up to 3 voices for your guitar. It takes some getting used to and perhaps some research on the user's part to know how key signatures relate to one's playing. Some features might be suited better with an optional footswitch as with the S-Bend effect or the detune. It is a fun pedal to experiment with when practicing and I would recommend getting an expression pedal to go along with it.

  • One Trick Pony Not a Versitle Effects Modifier

Makes a couple of descent sounds but does not work well with other pedals After hours of experimentation it only works well with compression and distortion both before and after the pedal No other modulation pedals are usable It produces a couple of descent harmonies but will not work for Rock or Metal.. but is useful for Blues and Pop. Disappointing as there is no Natural 4th Its a good quality pedal for the above stated styles Wish I had tried one before buying. The you tube Demos are a bit deceptive if your looking for other sound combinations or possibilities... its really limited. So it's a One Trick Pony Behringer U600 is much better for Rock and Metal Sounds I have 5 and they are very versatile with other modulation effects and a lot less expensice. the Boss is not at all any good if you're expecting to enhance your present modulated sound.

  • Aiming at the future of music

BOSS has a long line of pitch shifters, with each model having something special. PS-6, the last addition is not specifically new but it's a marvel and covers lots of ground. First, there's the harmonizer function that adds harmonies for single note lines, which is good for playing those Hotel California solos. Then there's the detune mode which is a very cool digital chorus. At last is the S-Bend mode which I bought it for. The S-bend functions with momentry switching, while all the rest is regular latching switching. That means the pedal is off, the moment you step on it the effect is engaged and when you take your foot off it turns off. This allows inserting weird glitches and pitch bends mid-solo or mid-riff without having the pedal constantly on. Adding an expression pedal turns it into a Whammy, but you can cover most Morello solos even without the external controller. In short, it is packed with modes but the most important - it may ignite some new music and make you sound really cool and modern. Yes, it's not a vintage blues tool, it's for those who aim at the future. Check out NOVA TWINS if you want to hear it in action, these girls squeeze all the juice out of the S-bend mode.

  • not really great

I was curious about this pedal , and it's just OK , I ended up upgrading to an an eventide H9 which blows this away , so not recommended for serious pitch shifting or harmony , get an eventide pitch factor or H9 , I'd go with the H9 as it's more durable than a pichfactor

  • Wonderful Pedal

This pedal is great. It nails those Van Halen tones on detune mode without the load modulation of chorus pedals. The s bend is fun to mess around on, and the harmony is great for Boston and Queen songs. It add so much to the dry guitar tone, super full sounding. I always have it on. A must have for sure!

  • 2 for the price of one....

You get a lead voice and a harmony part. Works on any instrument and all vocals if you use the pedal right.
