The power light turns on but when connected back-to-back even with a short 75 ohm cable jumper, the syncl light blinks but never come on steadily. And of course no thru-way ethernet connection.

I'm using these on a dedicated coax wire - no cable or satellite, just point to point. These work great for that and they are much cheaper than other MoCA adapters. The USB ones will not power from USB chargers or hubs, etc. but they power from the DSL modem, my router, my computer, and my NAS. Basically, they need a "computer" of some sort to treat it like a USB device; it won't power up without that. It took me a while to figure that out. It wasn't a problem for me, but make sure you have a computer or router with a USB port on each end. If not, then find the other item that comes with wall plugs instead of USB cables.
