I've been wanting to make the leap to DCC for a while. Mr. Bowditch's price on this system was just too good to pass up. I have two DCC locomotives which have not been run on DCC powered track since before 2007, and I was thrilled to find they still ran like a charm! I'm having decoder problems (I think) with another locomotive, but my dad had two of the same type, both had the similar type of problem, so I'm working it out. But the Zephyr Xtra is a wonderful system for those who want to run DCC on a small layout or those who want to learn how to use DCC. My layout is only a 4x8 with a single track mainline. Next up: decoders for all of my other locomotives! Not only do I love this system, but Mr. Bowditch is a wonderful salesman. I placed my order and it shipped next day. It was purchased on Tuesday the 2nd, was picked up on the 3rd, and was scheduled to arrive by the 9th, but showed up on the 6th! 4 days! FOR FREE! Plus, the price Mr. Bowditch set was unbeatable: almost $100 cheaper than the retail price for the exact same thing! Because of these things, I plan to do much more business with Mr. Bowditch; he truly deserves it! All in all: I love the Zephyr Xtra, and I love Mr. Bowditch's business. Thank you, Bob!!Read full review

This is the second DCS51 I have purchased, one for each of the two layouts that I have built. I love the simplicity of this product and reliability. I have used the first one for five years trouble free, and had a DCS50 model previously that I purchased used. It still operated fine but would only handle 10 addresses where the 51 model has a 20 address capability. Also the 51 has more buttons for more sounds. I would highly recommend the DCS 51 for beginners or veteran model railroaders.

The Zephyr Xtra is the one to buy if you're looking to get into DCC or convert over from another system... it also will control your analog trains too. My brother, who's a total railfan + avid model railroader for over 45 years, saw my Digitrax system in operation and was instantly sold, ordered one the next day !! We have the USA versions ! So you Aussie's & Z-Boys are in for a real treat. Have Fun !! Frank L. Falls, PA. USA

I am in the process of changing a large but old HO gauge layout from conventional walk-around control to DCC and bring it up to date. The Zepher Xtra is being used to power the yard at this time while rewiring up grade is being done as time permits. The Zepher Xtra has worked flawlessly since I hooked it up and I'm looking forward to adding other Digitrax units as they become needed. THANKS!!!

This throttle has an excellent displlay and is reasonably easy to understand its operation after reading the manual. (Reading the manual is a must before trying to do advanced operations.) It even came with a lanyard to reduce the chance of dropping the throttle. It is a little large and heavy though. I was surprised that the battery power level hadn't dropped (according to the indicator) after over 3 hours of operation. The only problems I've found is the throttle will shut down if no speed changes or commands have been sent after a short time. I think the time delay can be altered, but I haven't tried to do so yet. Also, to turn it off after an operating session is difficult. I guess I could just let it time out, but I'd prefer a manual switch. I could also remove the batteries but doing that is difficult also. At my second operating session, I was able to run two trains at the same time with one as a multi-unit.Read full review

I bought this throttle because of its physical size. It is very comfortable to use with one hand and once past the "new and strange" time it is very easy to control your locomotive without having to look at the throttle instead of the train and track. It works well with the wireless "LocoNet" systems by DigiTrax. I particularly like the choice of using either alkaline or rechargeable batteries with this unit.

I've been a Digitrax user for many years and bought this unit for a small portable layout. It is very well suited for this application and even works well along side my larger system. It is perfect for the beginning DCC operator. Easy to follow instructions and intuitive controls. One of the best buys on the market in this area

New to this hobby so the whole DCC system is a tad confusing. But am quickly getting the hang of it with this system. It was easy to set up and I’ve done some programming already. Once you get the procedural method down it’s much easier because whatever you’re trying to do follows a common routine. This system was recommended to by local club members with decades of experience.

I write this review as I watch my trains run. The zephyr is awesome, easy to setup, and a blast to run multiple trains. Glad I purchased, and would recommend highly!
