  • Excellent WiFi 5 Access Point for OpenWRT

This is an enterprise grade 3x3 MIMO wireless AP. It normally requires an expensive controller from the manufacturer for provisioning in your network environment. THIS AP WILL NOT OPERATE STAND-ALONE. I can't stress this enough. However, there's a silver lining. OpenWRT, an open-source Linux-based router distribution is easy to install, and it works magnificently on this AP. I have three of them in my network and WiFi roaming is seamless between APs and between 5GHz and 2.4 GHz speeds. I get speed upwards of 300 mbps in both directions, depending upon type of endpoint and distance to the AP. OpenWRT offers a myriad of configuration options. I can't post links here, just Google the model number followed by OpenWRT, download the latest firmware tarballs, then follow the installation guide. You will need a Cisco-style USB to serial adapter cable, they're available on eBay and elsewhere for a few bucks. Get one with an FTDI chipset for best reliability. Enjoy!

  • Great deal for a OpenWrt based AP

I'm astonished that so many people do ZERO research before buying stuff online, only to then leave the product a bad review because THEY couldn't be bothered to read a little bit. These are intended to be used with a central controller, this model does NOT have a standalone SSH feature. It only took one Google search to discover this information. Hence why they're so cheap now. Solutions... A: Don't buy this one or B: Install OpenWrt :) I got THREE of these for $25.99. It took a whopping 10 minutes to get OpenWrt installed. Profit!

  • Unusable

This Access point cannot be configured as a standalone device. It requires a proprietary configuration hardware device (Extreme Wireless Appliance) which is designed to control hundreds of these access points in a large environment. The operational firmware cannot be accessed from a web browser or any other method except for the Extreme Wireless Appliance which costs thousands of dollars. Do not buy this unless you need a door stop or have the Extreme Wireless Appliance.

  • No good deal

I keep searching for a WiFi access point, that is self contained, like Mesh system. No one will be honest about some need controllers. Most of these good deals are out of date and don’t meet today’s requirements.
