These selections were recorded but it hadn't been planned (since they were for the old 78rpm records) for reissue. I'm glad the original takes were saved so they could be made into a cd for posterity. I enjoy Erroll Garner and to hear his brief (remember, 78 rpm records weren't long) takes on classic songs of the time. It's easy to overlook the shortcomings of the original recordings when he's having fun playing and you're having fun listening.

Solo Erroll Garner from 1949, and plenty of it, on 2 discs. The last 4 numbers are a rare and special treat from an earlier date with Erroll being joined in a trio setting with Slam Stewart on bass and "humming". Excellent musical selections, consistent throughout. This music is not at all dated and Erroll's piano playing is so rich and full, not like the typical somewhat hollow and self-centered piano solos. You will discover the genius of Erroll Garner on these 2 cd's. Don't even hesitate!
