About this product

Product Information

Set up a speedy internet connection in your home or small business with a powerful and reliable cable modem. The Motorola SURFboard SB6180 is a high-performance modem that offers speedy surfing and quick data transfers. Its design promotes dependability as well as performance for every setting. The modem runs on DOCSIS 3.0 bandwidth. DOCSIS 3.0 presents a very broad range of speeds. It features a higher level of bonding that covers eight downstream and four upstream channels. This DOCSIS approach to channel bonding helps data rates reach at least 120 Mbps. An emphasis on high Mbps leads to clear streaming video and gaming services, which highlights this modem's capabilities. This broadband choice requires no feedback or phone lines during operation. A downstream-related tuner is included in the modem's structure. Used to control frequency, this dedicated DOCSIS choice improves connections to streaming content. Manual control is not necessary for day-to-day operation. Instead, it watches for stream changes without manual interference. Measuring just 5 inches in height and width, the Motorola SURFboard SB6180 fits into most any space. It promotes space-saving opportunities by removing the clutter of needless cables and wires. The rear side of the modem features ports for Ethernet, power, and cable connections. These easy-to-identify ports make it easy for anyone to set up and connect the modem to their existing devices or routers. Manuals, included with new packaging, showcase the ease of each connection and provide clear pictures and information about each port. Among Motorola model modems, the attention to router compatibility is important. With this dedicated system, a router works with items to achieve better wireless access. No additional equipment is needed to create a simple network. Cable is easily fed through the modem thanks to its carefully crafted construction. A strong Motorola SB6180 cable modem structure is amplified by 9 watts of electricity. Cords supporting 60 Hz provide the right amount of electricity to keep the modem running at optimum levels. This lowered power level also meets Energy Star standards. The front of the Motorola SURFboard SB6180 device offers color-coded LED lights. They display the status of power, downstream channel connection, upstream channel connection, and internet connectivity. Different Motorola cable modem light colors help you determine your modem's activity. If one begins blinking or changes colors, it can reflect the need for attention. A PDF format manual showcases the color chart and their meaning to the device. These colors offer a bold vision among Motorola cable modems. This Motorola cable modem is compatible with Windows Vista and Windows 7 operating systems. You may use other operating systems if you update the registry keys. Mac systems featuring OS 9 or newer editions may also use this modem. Both adjust to any wireless cable modem and router brands. The modem can be wall mounted or placed on its side as a standalone base. For manual placement of the device, a wall mount template is included. This easy-to-use template provides a clear guide for drill bits during installation. Both vertical and display end options are present to address any electronics or computer-related storage situation.

  • Cable Modem for TWC

I purchased this modem after reading many reviews about whether it worked with Time Warner Cable or not. Comparing the price of this modem to the similar SB6141 model, this was a much better buy. The SB6141 averaged around $50 while I was able to purchase this model for under $30. The two modems have similar up/down channels, so on paper one really wasn't that much better than the other. This modem is intended to work with Cox Cable. When I called into Time Warner to have this modem set up, I simply provided them the MAC ID and everything was good to go. So far I have had no issues with the modem and when plugged in directly, I got a speed test of 110mb down/ 13mb up.

  • Cheaper to buy than to rent from C-- cable.

My cable company was going to charge me $10.00/mo. to rent a modem. There are a lot of "surfboard" modems on eBay, so I'm guessing a lot have been manufactured, used and no longer needed by customers. This model (SB6180) works perfectly with my WiFi router to create a hot spot for all my devices here at home (it's not a WiFi modem by itself).

  • Perfect for small family.

Although I made the mistake in thinking this was the 6121 which I told ISP it was so they sent firmware update to it and it has worked just fine . It has been over a month and still seems to be keeping up worth 3 people online with no bogging down.

  • Great value, sharp looking Cable Modem

This modem connected to our Wireless router with ease and performs fast. We have the least expensive cable high speed internet - getting 16.74m download speeds. The indicator lights on the front are very sharp looking and very informative about the connectivity state of the modem. Takes very little space, a great bargain for a very powerful modem. Very happy with this product! :-)

  • SURFBOARD SB6180

This modem works well and is easy to use. Only problem I have had is the power supply slowly died and cause it to malfunction with flashing lights. But it was easy fix by replacing the old power supply and was up and running again. Good work horse.

  • Small and very efficient unit

Very nice unit. Small, so it fits just about anywhere. Easy connection, you just need to make sure you notify your ISP with the unit ID; so they can identify the unit on their end. Great speed and power.

  • Works out of the box with Wow Internet

I switched to Wow Internet from Brighthouse to take advantage of $25 / month internet service. 30 mbps down, 5 up. The Motorola SURFboard with Docsis 3.0 support worked out of the box, perfectly.
