  • Great deal for earlier Nikon AF lenses

With the announcement by Nikon that it is discontinuing its APS-C DSLR cameras (except the D7500) scoop up on the earlier D7000 series. They are more durable than the D3000's and D5000's series of cameras. Also, the D7000 series can use the non-AF-S lenses. If you have a bunch of the earlier Nikon AF lenses and can't afford Nikon's full-size sensor DSLR this is the way to go. I have to make a case for the D7100 which I bought and am using. It has a dual-slot SD card setup (which the D7500 only has a single SD slot). The D7100 has a 24MP sensor compared to the D7000's 16MP. So, if you have a bunch of earlier Nikon AF lenses, as well as their new AF-S ones then get a D7100 and you will not be disappointed.

  • hard to beat this lens/camera combo when purchased used on ebay.

The D7100 camera is a nice update to all the older mag body nikons I have used starting with the D1. It has more scene modes that are sometimes useful to the professional, but I don't use that stuff very often. The video capability is nice and I can use it as another view when doing a video shoot with my 4k camera. The focus is much faster than the 3K or 5K series cameras and it has all the usual manual settings that are helpful in special situations. it takes a little work to figure it out, but if you know your stuff, the camera is an excellent solution. I even use my vintage primes with it in manual mode. It holds a lot of memory so you can do a lot of shooting with it. Buying one used on ebay with a good lens turned out to be a good value because I had busted my previous VR lens and it was nice to have another one. it came with memory cards, spare battery, charger and even an electronic shutter release. That with my library of lenses and filters, plus its fun special effects means it does just about everything. I am using it to take stills now for instructional videos as well as ebay auction items. My old 3100 will be retired to back up body.

  • It's like Christmas...

The question "Is it easy to use?"... This is and was a camera designed past the beginners models and so it has a lot of different settings and abilities and capabilities an entry level camera doesn't.. I will be learning about this camera for a while. I am extremely happy with deal I got on this camera... Were it not for that, I would still be shooting my D3400... Don't get me wrong.. I can do a lot with the 3400... I hope to do more with the D7100.. I attached a couple of pictures that I shot with this camera..

  • Love

I adore this camera. For someone who is slightly more serious about photography than your standard user but still not a professional photographer by any means, this is the perfect camera. It has the size and weight of a full frame DSLR with the menus and options to match, but still boasts the crop sensor that's more forgiving for a semi-amateur and supports a larger array of lens options. As with any semi-pro camera, it takes some time to fully learn what all the buttons are and what they do, but once you spend the time to figure this camera out, you will be more than happy with your photos. I've had two of these in the past, and after my first one I tried to upgrade to the D7200 but found that I honestly preferred the menus and quality of the D7100, so I returned the 7200 and went back to this. Pair it with a quality Nikkor lens and you can't go wrong.

  • very powerful enthusiast camera

while you can set the camera to the "auto" mode and take really good pictures, you will not take a picture that "POPS" unless you dial in your own custom settings. and, boy, does this camera let you set anything and everything! as most dslr cameras now days, the d7100 has modes in which you can set the shutter speed, aperature, or both, adjust the ISO in any mode but auto. the on-board image enhancers are fun to play with also. and there are what i call my cartoon modes where you can shoot pictures in a crayon-like drawing, or single out colors and black and white the rest... the lcd screen is a nice 3" high resolution screen which makes the high def videos easy to see. there is a wide selection in video quality also, including frame speeds. i have had this camera for a couple months now, and have not had nearly enough time to get to know the inner workings or put it through enough shooting situations. but, i can say that i love this camera and i hope i can use even half of what it is capable of!

  • Great camera!

Received this camera as a Christmas present. Opened it early to check and make sure all items were there. I must say that this is an impressive camera. I've not had the chance to really explore the things that this camera is capable of. I don't consider myself a professional by any means but this camera is simple enough to operate for the novice, and complex enough for more advance users. There are a multitude of settings and dials to keep you exploring and experimenting for some time. You definitely need to keep the user manual handy as it has some extremely useful info on camera operation and capability. if you are considering upgrading your point and shoot digital camera to the next level, you should definitely take a look at the Nikon D7100. You won't be disappointed.

  • The Nikon D7100 Remains a Great Camera in 2020

Even though this is a 2013 Nikon model, it is still one of the most stellar DX DSLR cameras to buy. I had recently purchased a new Nikon mirrorless camera and gave my 6 year old D7100 to my son, thinking I won't need it. I found out I still needed and WANTED a DSLR. Countless reviews rave about the quality of the D7100 and I know from years of experience, it is high quality and very dependable, ever after countless thousands of shots. I would take an average of 350 to 500 shots with every photo hike I'd take. The D7100 I just purchased only had a shutter count of 4300, so it was like having a brand new Nikon. Go to You Tube and watch videos of why the D7100 is still a great camera for 2020. I believe I'll be using my recent purchase for 10 years and more. My son still has the D50 he bought in 2006 and it works great.

  • Sturdy and consistent images.

I find this an easy camera to use. I shoot hundreds of portraits a day and edit then soon after. I shoot in manual with a fixed f-stop zoom lens and the settings are consistent throughout the shoot. This help tremendously with the edit. You have large files, so use fast SD cards. I shoot with 2 cards, one for jpeg and the other RAW just in case of operator error. The camera is fairly light for a DSLR and has a magnesium body for strength.

  • Nikon's mighty mite

Nikon has packed many of the qualities of its high-line DSLRs into the 7000 series. The D7100 is a serious upgrade from the D7000 it replaced, and the D7200 offers some serious improvements as well. For me, the value-for-the-buck is with the D7100. People who like to shoot a lot of video will like this at least for short bursts. I've always found the multiple steps required for video to be something of a pain, but the process works well and creates high-def output. You're best off to settle on a focal length and let it stay there. Still, on the other hand, are a breeze once you navigate the menus and tell the camera what you REALLY want to do. From sun-drenched desert landscapes to nighttime political rally photos, the D7100 never let me down. Just because it's small, definitely smaller than the D300 or D600 series, the camera has pretty good battery life. Its controls will be instantly familiar to any lower-level Nikon user, making the upgrade pretty painless. Then there are the images. At 24MP, the sensor captures amazing detail. Use the light properly and you'll love the texture you can record. It isn't a D800 or one of the other amazing beasts Nikon produces now, but it's a very good camera for the money. Since many of us don't have the budget for the top of the line stuff, this gear will get us what we really need, even if it isn't always all we'd want.

  • Great Camera - Nikon D7100

The D7100 has all the features wanted and the capacity to take you close to Pro level at fraction of the usual cost. When purchased as a reconditioned camera they constitute an excellent value. Unless you have a real need for the new 7200 Wi-Fi advantages the 7100 is every bit as capable at about half the price. There are a wide range of after market products available for this camera allowing you to customize it for just about any task you might have in mind. It's one of the best DX camera values on the market today. Highly Recommended.
