I have four of these heads! I love them.
Not for heavy cameras, but for most P&S and DSLRs they're fine. I would not hesitate to use them for any camera that weighs less than 1.5 lbs, but beyond that I'd probably look for something sturdier. These just screw onto top 1/4" post on your tripod, so that's why I would not use with a heavier camera. A lot of people prefer ball heads, but I shoot mostly copy work and landscapes so I like to get the camera level. These heads have bubble levels built in everywhere and separate controls for getting the vertical and horizontal alignment, short rubber grips are perfect, don't poke me. The lock on the quick release is easy to lock and usually easy to unlock. I've got about six of the quick releases, so I just have them attached to all camera bottoms ready to go. They're small enough they usually don't cover the battery compartment, but it varies with brands of cameras. Very smooth action, grease dampened, so it's easy to make small, smooth adjustments to movements. Don't get me wrong, I love Bogen/Manfrotto legs, but Bogen heads are heavy and have very clunky movements. Put one of these heads on some 3001 legs and you're good for most digital cameras.
