There is only one lighting option
I have other types of these inexpensive led solar lamps. I bought this one becuase I needed a lamp that would extend from the house far enough to get the sun. This unit has a simple on/off switch that is accessed through a tiny pin-hole, with a paper clip or the little metal pin they provide. Once turned on, the unit will remain off until dark. Once dark, the unit lights up in DIM mode: this provides a minimal amount of light, and is designed to conserve battery. With any movement, the unit switches to BRIGHT mode. I found the brightness & sensitivity to be good for my purposes. My other solar motion led lamps have an additional mode; they can remain totally off until sensing movement. This mode will obviously maximize battery life, as the unit only turns on when necessary. When I bought this lamp, the description led me to believe that this unit also had the totally off until movement mode. The reason this concerns me is that I am not sure the battery will last long enough to power the device through the whole night, when the unit remains on in a constant dim mode the entire night. I checked it when I woke up this morning still dark shortly before sunrise, and the unit was still lit in dim mode. So at least for this first day it had enough power to last the night.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Dead in a couple hours
I let set it in direct sunlight all day. turned it on at night and the light came on and I thought great, just what I needed. I came back in a couple of hours to see if the light is in the dim mode and what I saw was the light was just about dead. No brighter light with motion and it charged all day. Tried again the next day and the same result. My light cannot hold a charge to last overnight. Dim / Bright / Off are the only settings
I was disappointed to find out that these lights are designed to be always on (low) and go brighter when they detect motion. I don't see the point of not including an "off + motion" option. I also don't like the bright white color of the light. A wamer white color is nicer for home installations, in my opinion. Wish it was better.
First 5 days was great. Easy install. Worked all night, great light. Installed 3 of the 6 I ordered 5 days ago, went to install the other three and noticed one of the ones that was already installed was lit up, and it was still daylight. Went to turn it off to try and reset it and noticed that the solar panel was already separating from the light. Checked the second one and same thing, it wasn't lit up, but the solar panel was already coming off. The temp has only been in the low 70's and we have not had any rain since I installed them. They are such a neat little lite and I thought they would be great, but starting to fail and come apart after 5 days ain't gonna cut it. Recvd it hung followed instructions and it came on but the motion wasnt sensor was not sensitive enough to catch me so I moved to my parking. There its hung high. Worked one night than next never turned on. Been up since and every few days I climb up and stick a pin In a little hole to chk if it just needed a charge. Light hasn't come back on since . Not waterproof
