Inexpensive alternative to APC's proprietary cable
Look I love APC's UPS products. But, because APC chose to make their interface proprietary, you can't just plug any ordinary USB cable into their Back-UPS or Smart-UPS products and expect your UPS to be able to communicate with APC's Powerchute control and monitoring software. APC will sell you their own custom interface cable for $34.99 USD - a price that's pretty much pure profit to them - but this alternative cable is less than 1/4 the cost, and it works flawlessly. I cannot more strongly recommend a product than I do this one. Buy it, download and install Powerchute, and you can set your APC UPS to automatically shut down your computer without risking your data in the event of a power outage. You can also configure the UPS to wait until it's starting to run out of power to shut down your computer, so you can keep using it during brief power outages without having to concern yourself with whether it's safe to do that. You can also use Powerchute to configure your UPS to not sound alarms during power outages, which is a very welcome feature. (I have 8 APC UPSes scattered around the house, and hearing them all beeping away during temporary outages drives me crazy!) (Note: there are Chinese sellers currently offering equivalent products for as low as $6.64, shipping included, but this one is from a U.S. seller and it was delivered in a week, rather than the typical 3 weeks to a month for shipments from China.)Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Does what you need
I have an APC UPS but the cable that came with it has a DB9 at one end. The PC I wanted to move it to does not have a serial port and a USB-Serial adapter didn't seem to work. With this cable the UPS was recognized immediately. All is good.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned
