  • loose fitting

Since this is my first attempt to use Power Pole connectors, I will try to rate these connectors fairly. I found that connecting stranded wire to the connectors to be problematic. I found it rather difficult to get the wire to the correct depth into the connector.. the wire seemed to be correctly placed and after crimping, the wire was loose in the connector. So after a few tries I finally found the 'sweet spot' where the wire would crimp correctly and was firmly connected. The second issue I have is that the two connectors do not seem to have enough pressure to keep the contacts from arcing under high current. Each of the connectors required that I bend the flat spring under each connector to 'tighten' the connection. After these issues were corrected, the connectors seem to work fine. I think that the connectors would work better if the next size larger (than those recommend) were used. ie: a 10 gauge wire should have a 8 gauge connector.. The contacts of these connectors seem too small and too loose fitting for the current ratings from the manufacturer.

  • Standard power connector for electronics hobbyist.

Has become the standard power connector for the Ham Radio and do it your self hobbyist. The same shell can be used for 15, 30 and 45 amp contacts. The connectors mate with them self's, no male and female to worry about. The 30 amp contact is the most popular and and by far the easiest to assemble without soldering. I recommend using the crimping tool and pin extractor for quicker assembly.

  • Anderson PowerPoles--okay for many applications

What I am writing here is about Anderson PowerPoles in general. They work "okay." They are not the best for all low-voltage DC applications because they pull apart easily. Also, they are not actually polarized; it's possible to inadvertently reverse polarity. And, if assembly is not standardized, it's possible to install the connector pairs in such a way that they won't mate other pairs without reversing them. The UV resistance of the plastic parts is unknown, as far as I can tell. I can't find a specification about this. Also, I have not seen a breakdown or flashover voltage specified. As for the Anderson PowerPoles that I received in this purchase, their quality seemed very good. No complaints there. But they were not supplied with roller pins. If installed properly in high quality plastic covers, the roller pins are highly desirable. Thus, not receiving them with this purchase was disappointing.

  • Anderson Powerpole 30 Amp

I have used these power poles several times. Install them correctly and they work great. I use 30 Amp ones, it doesn't make sense to me to use anything with a lower amp rating. Crimpig them to the wire can be done using vice grips or needle nose pliers and that works, but is a pain and does not always work well. Getting a Powerpole set of Crimpers (TC-1 is a version) is great if you are going to use powerpoles frequently and want it done right the first time.
