Looked brand new. Worked right out of the box. Came with the latest firmware (v7). Using Linux (Centos 8 Stream). I skipped the built-in raid options (just so you know that this card does not have a battery to protect write-back cache) because I am using Linux mdadm: Therefore a non-issue for me. Running in "plain" mode does not require the HP Smart Storage Admin as all 8 SATA ports are presented natively. The card goes through its own diagnostics ahead of the motherboard BIOS. Using a pair of mini-SAS to SATA cables, all of my eight SATA drives are working with this card. The only thing I wonder about is that the small heatsink on the card gets noticeably hot, but this has not been an issue performing.

No need to flash, runs cool, and the management utility reports the temp. Better than the LSI based controllers in my opinion.

A bit slow on rebuilds and expansions, but works as advertised. Hopefully, I won’t ever need it to rebuild or expand.
