  • Yesterdays Tech, but an affordable and solid performer

Unless your the type of person who has a greater level of disposable income and needs the latest and greatest tech, your like me and stuck with yesterdays technology and trying to find the biggest bang for your buck. The Arris Surfboard SB6141 meets that search for a cable model. This unit price is a bargain, it's a plug and play unit as long as you call your cable company when installed, and provides entry level Docsis 3.0 compatibility and speeds. Although it is only capable of bonding 8 channels , as opposed to the current tech of 16 and 32, it performs solidly and consistently gave me download speeds in excess of the cable provider's max stated standards. That's pretty good for the price.

  • Great Modem, Arrived in good shape, works just fine!

I purchased this modem to replace one just like it, same model Motorola SB6141, but my old one is black, this new one is white. I installed it and then contacted Comcast to provision the modem, and it exhibits the exact same problem as the original which is that on the Bonded Channels, all 8 Download channels appear to be bonded correctly, but for the 4 Upload Channels, only the first channel is Displaying "Success", but the other 3 Upload Channels display "Retries Exceeded" after the modem boots up. This is apparently a Comcast Issue as there is only a single Coax Cable running from the back of the modem directly to the outside grounding block. I know because I installed it myself. From the Grounding Block, another Comcast owned cable runs underground to a pole on the corner of the property, then down the street to an area where all of the Comcast cabling was recently replaced due to a big truck tearing all of the lines down. This problem did not exist before the Cable Rebuild, and clearly replacing the modem did not solve the issue, however, I'm glad that this modem works just like my original. Clearly, the problem does not reside within my Home or Equipment. Motorola SB6141 is a very reliable modem, and will handle up to about 300 Mbps download rates which is more than I'll ever need.

  • works great for a refurbished unit

I have had the modem for a week and setup was a breeze for TWC all I had to do was take the original modem in the original box to the store, the lady scanned them both and I went home plugged it in and was good to go. At speeds a little faster than my actual internet quote. Now for the single bad thing, after having the modem for a week or two I've been slowed down to the slowest speed I can pay for. To fix this twice I restarted and I'm gonna see how long it takes to happen again. Otherwise I wish I bought one sooner.

  • good basic cable modem

I plugged it in. Gave MAC# to cable provider. It worked. Speed as expected, basic performance. Durability/reliability unknown; too bad these rating schemes never provide info on failures over time. 3 stars, because 4 means "better than expected." It's not better than expected. It doesn't need to be. Good product so far. No regrets. I'd buy it again, and recommend it to others who want a basic DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem.

  • Good..but check your service provider first

Naturally with this review, I would rate this modem with a 5 Star..but I rated it a 3 because the product claimed to have speeds up to 343MBPS. I have Time Warner Cable and paying for the 200MBPS service. With that's said, I had successefull updated my Mac ID with a time warner rep and connected my Arris(SB6141) modem and my Asus router. Everything worked fine, but when checking my download speeds, I was only recieving 100MBPs-115MBPS 😭. The time warner rep had checked the compatibility with TWC and it checked out, but it will be limited to a maximum output to 100MBPS and nothing can be done to receive my 200MBPS that I am paying for. So I had to down grade my service for the time being to 100MBPS and saved $10 off my bill and additional $10 for no longer leasing out the modem/router combo that they had provided. Its probably best to stick to the modem router/combo I was provided in the first place before I waste anymore money. The Arri's Modem model SB6190(Modem Only) can support speeds up to 300MBPS for Time Warner. Hope this is helpful and prevent any of you to make the same mistakes and wasting money and time like I had done to get the best and fastest speeds from my provider .

  • Great little modem. Easy to set up and use.

I got this modem to use with my Comcast internet service a number of months ago. It was cheap and easy to hook up, and I haven't had any trouble with it since. My only complaint is that the status lights are very bright (probably don't use it your bedroom, unless you wanted a nightlight too), but since it's in the living room, that's not a problem for me. Would buy again if needed!

  • Good modem, but very bright blue light

I knew about the blue light problem and I read that one could simply put some tape over the led lights, but that is not the case. The case has holes to reduce heat that allows the light to come out. You can't simply tape up the holes as that will damage the device. I placed it behind my wall mounted tv and there is a blue glow on the wall.

  • Good update to DOCSIS 3.0

Bought this used with guarantee that it had been decertified by all the ISPs it had used it in an internet setup and the seller was the original owner. Decertification (or deregistration) from previous uses is essential to ensure the new owner can use it another internet setup. No instructions were provided but were unnecessary since my ISP was fully knowledgeable about this specific device. My ISP (Cox) walked me through the detailed procedure for decertifying my then current DOCSIS 2.0 cable modem and then the step by step registration (certification) and installation of this DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem in my internet setup. While it does not advertise any improvement in my paid for relatively low level upload and download speeds I notice that all my iCloud mail, photos and other files seem to come up on my screen faster than with my old 2.0 modem. The only reason I can think of for such a change is that the 3.0 modem uses more "channels" than the 2.0 modem.

  • Modem set-up made easy.

When my Cable/Phone/Internet company increased the modem rental from $1 to $6 per month, I began my search for a modem replacement, recommendations on the Surfboard were highest I saw and it is on the list of my provider as compatible modems. I made the purchase and couldn't be happier. Saving myself $6 per month with a low cost replacement that I own.

  • So far so Good ..

so far so good .. The only thing that I can dislike is that the LED indicator lights on the front panel Will Brighton up a room as if I have a purple light on making it difficult to get to room Pitch black .. I fixed this problem by just putting some Piece of Black Tape to minimize The brightness of the lights at night time
