This is the rarest romantic comedy/drama in recent memory, taking on inter-generational struggles in this inequality-driven society, that no other film attempts with such tenderness. Michael Caine is a national treasure and did very well against several stereotypes that Hollywood cannot fathom. This is almost done with complete mastery of the word and the image, with huge kudos to the direction. I wept way too soon in this overlooked sleeper. "Last Love" tackles misunderstanding in the most sensitive manner. There are no car crashes and the humans solve their own misunderstandings with unforeseen silences with plenty of surprises to behold. All the participants in this feast of human joy and sadness underscore the importance of history and books in their lives without hammering the notion out loud. A wonderful film that will delight and educate the human struggle in this moment.
