  • Nothing beats an APPLE

It was sad to see that Apple stop making these in 2013 they’re very rare and hard to find especially in 3TB. It is such a great product 3 in 1, Storage, Wi-Fi and a Router and it all works Seamlessly with all your Apple Products. They are so great you see a lot that are Refurbished but there’s a lot of Sellers, Selling Previously Owned and Used as Refurbished so you’ve got to be careful when buying a Refurbished Unit claiming that they’ve been Tested and Work. Also they’re very delicate so it could get damaged while being refurbished. Anyway they are rebuildable. If you get lucky to get one it is certainly worth it and you can even have bigger drives put in them. I’ve seen them with 8TB and 12TB drives. The problem with buying them new in an unopened box, you’re paying more than they were when they were Brand New in the Apple Store. However if you’re an Apple Addict and you’ve got the money they are well worth the money. I’ve never had a product more durable and last so long. I’ve got one now that I’ve been using for eight years steady and it’s never giving me an issue. I’m about ready to set that aside for an emergency back up and start using one of the three brand new ones I own. I’ve got one for my new 2021 MBPro M1 Max and one for my old 2012 MBPro that is the one i am swapping out, because eight years is a long time for an HDD drive. The average life for a hard drive is around five years and six years is really good and pushing it, these things are made so good some have of lasted 20 years. Total Mount made for Apple Products has a wall mount for a Time Capsule and keeps it pretty much dust-free and it runs cooler than having it down on your floor, under your bed or behind your TV. I have one Time Capsule with 12 years of back ups, that’s the one that’s been running for eight years straight. I’m starting fresh with a new one for the new MacBook Pro and a new one for the old MacBook Pro that leaves me with one brand new spare and one my used spare that has the 12 years of backups on it. As I mentioned it’s unfortunate Apple‘s not making them anymore. You’ve got a buy something that isn't Apple, its aftermarket and you need a minimum of 2 devices to do what one Time Capsule is doing.

  • Apple Time Capsule

I bought this one to replace my older 2 TB Apple Time Capsule which stopped working. I just plugged it in and setup was a breeze. Its antennae are higher in the unit which really helps get the signal better in the back of my house. I had intermittent problems with the older one. I feel like I made a good purchase of a product that works great.

  • Apple Time Capsule

Time Capsule backs up your files and lets you use it for storage space as well. Wifi is faster than my older router by a noticeable amount which is a bonus. However, there is no off switch so no soft powering down so get used to pulling the plug if you want it off for whatever reason. Other than that it works fine wired with Ethernet or wireless. If it starts kicking your wireless connection you just have to set a manual address for the Ethernet in network settings. If you're using it as your router however you're avoiding that possible problem which is the only issue I came across when testing the Ethernet cable. The backup process is faster with Ethernet so you should use that when making your first backup file....because wireless takes a lot longer(half a day for 250GB or more). All things considered it's working as designed and I'm happy with my purchase!

  • Can't Go Wrong

I've used an original Time Capsule for six years. It didn't crap out, I just needed more data space. Sure there are more full featured devices on the market, but I wanted easy to set up, easy to use, easy to recover data—that's a Time Capsule.

  • Should've done this long time ago!

Long time ago I bought 2 WD external hard drives and they both crashed with my data! I couldn't recover anything! So I bought a second that I was told it was encrypted, safer, and reliable and after couple of back ups and 3 years later the damn thing shorted!!! Like WTF I paid about 300 for this because it was reliable and still broke down!!! All my data wasn't lost because it was in my master computer, so I decided to buy 3rd gen time capsule and omg best thing ever! After 4 years Still works like new, I ordered the 5th gen because I needed more storage and I know it's not going to let me down, this is a perfect case of quality vs quantity

  • Use as media server

I have poor internet speeds and dislike the idea of “cloud storage” immensely, so this seemed like a decent solution for storage and media accessibility between my devices. Since I mostly have other apple devices I decided on a first-party solution for an at home file/media server. The unit functions well between both apple and pc, but there is a surprising lack of first-party support/connectivity for this purpose. Third-party apps bridge this gap, “Remote Files” works very well, although it is not as seamless an experience as I had hoped, and apart from buying an ‘apple tv’ unit, I have yet to find a solution to stream files on a smart TV. First-party programs won’t allow you to access files from the server without copying them to the hard-disk for some reason. iTunes, Final Cut, Light Room all refuse to use the server as their primary library. So an extra step is needed to then store and retrieve files you wan’t to access through these programs. (There may be a way to do this, but it isn’t immediately obvious). A good product, but not well supported to expand it’s versatility.

  • Makes sense to buy used

The hardware quality is very good, if outdated - Apple has not refreshed the Time Capsule line since 2013. The software is weak, bordering on unusable - in an effort to make things easy for non-experts too much important functionality, such as SNMP support, has been dropped. Even worse, the software doesn't perform enough checks - in this case the unit failed to detect or report an ethernet connectivity issue, and proceeded to wipe the unit it was replacing and then rendered itself unusable, requiring a hardware reset. But buying one used at a considerable discount does make sense.

  • Replacing a 10 year old 500gb Time Capsule that still works

I’ve been waiting to purchase a 3TB Time Capsule for more than a year, but always thought Apple’s price was way over the top. Purchased this at eBay’s holiday discount and am extremely satisfied with both build and performance.

  • Good value and great features.

Works well and easy setup. However, it was a 2TB rather than a 3TB unit.

  • Almost Perfect. BUT it misses by just this much

The Apple Airport misses because it does not recognize Ethernet Printers. Only Airport and USB. This is a shortcoming that no other serious Hub/router manufacturer makes today and I wonder why Apple chose to do this. It is a Software item and not really that hard. Oh well. It misses by This Much.
