Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure is a 1994 video game developed and published by Activision. A sequel to Activision's classic game Pitfall! for the Atari 2600, the player controls Pitfall Harry, Jr., son of the protagonist of the original game, as he attempts to rescue his father from a Mayan jungle setting. Activision developed the game in partnership with Redline Games. It was first released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Sega Mega Drive (Sega Genesis) and Mega-CD (Sega CD) in 1994, followed by releases for the Sega 32X, Atari Jaguar, and PC the following year. The PC release was the first commercial release for the recently debuted Windows 95 operating system. Publisher Majesco Entertainment ported the game for the Game Boy Advance in 2001; a downloadable version appeared on the Nintendo Wii's Virtual Console in 2009. An extra feature in all versions is the ability to play the original Pitfall! (the Atari 2600 version) after finding a secret doorway within the game. The Sega CD, 32X and Windows ports contained extra (and expanded) levels and other enhancements over the other versions. The Windows port was based on the Sega CD version, and made using Kinesoft's Exodus game technology, which was later used to make the Windows port of Earthworm Jim: Special Edition. On April 13, 2009, the Sega Mega Drive version of Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure was released on the Virtual Console in North America and later in the PAL regions on May 15, 2009 and in Japan on August 25, 2009. It was later delisted on December 26, 2013 in Japan and at the end of 2013 in North America and the PAL regions.Read full review
The story and gameplay elements are compelling, but as reviewers at the time noted, the platforming play isn't as tight as you'd like it to be. Certain jumps and attacks have to be timed more precisely than the graphics allow, but at least you can generally take more than a few hits and survive. Definitely recommend - kids love watching me play.

Okay, so we have all played the original arcade style Pitfall games on the first home computers and Atari (you know the old stuff, god now I am showing my age, lol) anyways you should remember how fun the simple first additions were, jumping over the alligators and snakes, swinging from vine to vine. Well if that was entertaining to you like it was to me, you will love this version of Pitfall. More up to date and loads of fun. You will play as Harry Jr. and you must save Pitfall Harry, his father the original pitfall man. Pitfall harry has been taken captive by the spirit of an evil Mayan warrior and there is little time for Harry Jr. to save him. Swing from vines, jump quicksand and other jungle creatures or whack them with your whip. you will take a ride in an abandoned mine car as you venture through 5 different action-packed worlds. but watch for deadly traps, sinistar gargoyles, ghostly skeletons, and lethal crocs. Watch out for the firey pendulums and the wall of tongues! OH YEAH AND - P.S. Hidden in the game is the entire original version of pitfallRead full review

This is the best version of the game released to date. The backgrounds, music, and framerate are all solid, versus some other ports of the game. See Digital Foundry's video on this for more detail.

Awesome classic Genesis game. One of my favorites. I played it as a kid, and I have always loved it. It has fun gameplay, smooth controls, and the extremely detailed animations and beautiful backgrounds make it amazing.
