I did an experiment with the KRA-25 the night before last and compared it to a true and resonate 1/4 wave at 155 mhz ...and came up with no difference in actual gain. This means that the 25 can't get any better in design. Apparently someone at JVC/Kenwood managed to build a hybrid helical with no noticeable loss in the base windings. This one was bought to replace a damaged one on an old TK-290-1 (the actual radio tested). In the future I'll be ordering a TK-2180K2 and WILL be using the KRA-25 which is listed as an authorized accessory for the 2180 (U.S.) series. To a further thought, I've found that Kenwood's SMA-F design of connector is actually physically stronger than lets say Vertex's regular SMA, which does elevate the radio's viability in the public safety realm. -Doug-

I've used these antennas in the past and are a better improvement over the stock antenna. While it's still a handheld antenna, the high gain version does perform better. It may be a little long, but if you need that little extra help for your signal. It's worth it.

Great antenna, did alot for my TK-290. Reaches out and grabs radio traffic that others won't; would highly recommend it!
