Ultimate Classic Portrait Lens
Zeiss glass is pretty much the standard for microcontrast and "3D pop." The Planar 85mm is no exception. I'm getting great results on my Nikon D750. It's also much sharper wide open than the Planar 50mm 1.4. Corner sharpness isn't great wide open, but for portraits the character and rendering of the lens is superb. Stopped down, sharpness is pretty good across the frame. This is a manual focus lens so I'd recommend shooting on a tripod in live view if critical focus is important.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Excellent lens.
Once you get stuck on using the shallow depth of field - 1.8 or lower - it's hard to turn back. I love the Zeiss build and focus ring, unlike other camera lenses.
