The Runaway Rabbit is one of the Big Red Reader series. These rectangular books are different from classic Clifford picture books in that they are designed specifically to encourage new readers by challenging their comprehension. Norman Bridwell does not author the Big Red Reader series. Never the less, the book remains true to Bridwell's concepts. Not only does the story teach, but it encourages cooperative behavior and friendship. The story itself is a cute one, and it is fun to read. Clifford and his friends watch a pet rabbit for Emily Elizabeth. When they release the rabbit from its cage, the bunny escapes from the yard. The words are easy to read and designed to promote comprehension. The story line promotes responsibility, friendship, and caring for animals. At the end of the story, there is a comprehension review to check for retention. Young readers can complete this review by themselves, or it can be shared with an adult reader. The Runaway Rabbit is a story that can be read again and again. It is interesting in content, written very well, and encourages positive behavioral traits.Read full review
