Convenience is what I say. All my life I have to walk a distance from room to room to adjust the temperature thermostat. But now with just a few taps on my smart phone I can make changes to the thermostat. Advances in technology can make daily life a little easier. This thermostat has the ability to learn our habits such as what temperature you prefer to set at anytime throughout the day or night. Just read the instructions from the Nest app and it will provide you with all the information you need. Although it is costly to purchase a Nest Learning Smart Thermostat, it is one of my purchases in my lifetime that is worth buying for it’s convenience. You can find reasonable cost thermostat in the open market if you seek to buy used, open box, or refurbished thermostats but only if you do not mind second hand. Absolute garbage. Features like "not heating/cooling an empty home" based on the thermostat detecting movement sound great until you're, oh, I don't know, sleeping and not moving in front of the thermostat and the temperature inside starts rising to the outdoor temperature? I set the high end temperature to 80 while leaving the house for work a few times in the winter and the stupid thing now leaves itself set to not kick AC on until 80 during the middle of summer. This product is a prime example of overcomplicating a simple device. As a kicker, why would you want to put any google "smart" device in your home? Great product for urbanite bugmen, terrible product for real people.

I’ve always wanted a nest ever since my friend showed me his 2nd gen. Now that I’m a home owner it was the first thing I purchased for the house. After a week of use it learned our habits and is now cooling and heating by itself. Also makes your home feel futuristic.

The # supplied for using it remotely didn't work so need to try to get it elsewhere as it has left the screen. Need to figure out why it's holding on by the bottom clip and won't work if the top clip is engaged. Without internet connection it's kind of learning but no Einstein. Easier to adjust than other thermostats I've used.
