I've had a pop and lock tailgate lock on my wife's tacoma since a week after we bought it in 2017... it started having issues locking or unlocking even though I could hear it trying. I figured the solenoid was going bad so I ordered a new kit. The new setup is a stronger design, and engages the locking mechanism in a more efficient way. I changed out the solenoid anyway because of the design difference, but all the old one needed was some graphite lock lube.
