This is an especially good buy for small stream, spring creek or light pond fishing. I have bought 3 of these rods and although I broke one, (closed a car window on the tip) I still have the 7'6" 3 wt. and an 8'6" 4 wt. The moderate speed fits my casting style and the light size allows me to cast drys with ease. I don't consider a rod that casts this well to be a beginners rod, I know and have used a professional guide who routinely uses these rods and sells them in his fly shop.

I bought this rod as a replacement for my 6 weight fly rod as the 6 weight was a bit heavy for the trout I was catching. I love the medium fast action of this rod. It loads nicely and casts effortlessly. If you are in need of a 5 weight rod, I would definitely take a closer look at the Redington Classic Trout fly rod.
