Good looking, light weight, accurate, excellent value.
This compass came quickly in the mail. It came with two protective films on the mirror. Be aware that you have to carefully peel those off. (Then keep you grubby fingers off the mirror!) On my digital postal scale it weighed 2.3 ounces. It looks exactly as pictured. By the way, it looks identical, and probably is identical, to the UST brand model Hi Vis Folding compass. But, I notice this one costs less here.
The azimuth ring is very easy to read (the numbers on the bezel). The rotating bezel moves with just a little resistance, as it should. There are no instructions with the compass so I suggest you go to YouTube and look for a video on how to use a mirror compass. It does not glow in the dark but I will not be traveling at night. The index line is a little difficult to read (black on black), but okay. I would have made it a white line on black. Whiteout? It has a very nice protractor (up to 35 deg.) that I suspect I will rarely use, but cool to have.
No lanyard came with the compass. It lies flat for easy straight edge drawing lines on a map. The orienting arrow and orienting lines are very clear and precise. There is no declination adjustment so you will do that either mathematically or by putting the red arrow on the appropriate off-set for declination.
In spite of the few little faults I mentioned here I must say I am very pleased with the compass and am sure it will prove accurate and last me a long time. The price is right. I could have spent a LOT more on a compass, but I doubt I will need anything more than this and it is important to me that it is light weight and compact when folded. Perfect for my purpose of navigating in the wilderness. It will always be in my backpack when I leave home.
For someone that is looking for a functional cheap compass, this one fits the bill. It is made of plastic that feels rather fragile, so be careful you don't break it. If you don't mind spending a bit more on a heavy duty military metal or solid plastic model, that may be better.
For myself, I'm OK carrying this one.
Well made compass with a learning curve. get a book and learn how to use it properly. Could use a metal lanyard loop and carrying case. The extra cost would be worth the money.
