Clint Eastwood is Joe Kidd, a former bounty hunter who is in jail for hunting on Indian land and disturbing the peace in the New Mexican town of Sinola. Mexican bandito/revolutionary Luis Chama (John Saxon) has organized a peasant revolt against the local landowners, who are throwing the poor off land that rightfully belongs to them. When a posse, financed by wealthy landowner Frank Harlan (Robert Duvall), is formed to capture Chama, Kidd is invited to join but prefers to remain neutral. Harlan persists and Kidd finally relents when he learns that Chama's band has raided his own ranch and attacked one of the workers. The posse rides into a village and forces the villagers into the church at gunpoint. They threaten to kill five Mexican hostages unless Chama surrenders. Harlan throws Kidd into the church with the other Mexican hostages, to prevent him from helping Helen, an attractive woman who is a supporter of Chama, and was forced to accompany Harland and his men to the village. Kidd manages a daring escape and saves the hostages, determined to find Chama himself and see that justice is done. But when he does capture Chama and delivers him to Sheriff Mitchell (Gregory Walcott) Harlan is already waiting for them in town. To get to the jailhouse, Kidd drives a steam engine through the town saloon. A gunfight then ensues between Kidd and Harlan's men. Eventually Kidd manages to kill Harlan in the court house. Chama then surrenders to Mitchell but not before Kidd knocks the sheriff down for not standing up to Harlan and his murderous plan. Kidd then collects his things and leaves town with Helen.Read full review
An ex-bounty hunter (Clint Eastwood) must go with some other bounty hunters which can only become dangerous and when his own land becomes involved forces a very bad episode. Mexico becomes a wide open range on a chase for Lewis Chama, what ever comes between these bounty hunters and this man Chama will be destroyed or killed. There is no court room, shoot outs are normal action when hunting starts up. La Roya Planco is not to be expected but the pass has a way to show people there is no other way to live. When Clint starts beating up one of the other bounty hunters this will turn the plot to another dangerous outcome. The scene when Clint and the boys visit Helen a sqaw, this was probably a moment that the other boys would do something wrong, but the resting time went without a mishap. As you know this was an old friend of Clint, so anything gone wrong would have meant more blazing shoot out. By this time Clint already knows he will be forced to reckon the other boys. There's a point when he starts taking out the boys one by one. The swinging water pot was fancy and a barrel of laughs. El Rebano and the townspeople are threatened by this bunch of bounty hunters where law has no place. Remember Clint is being paid $1000 for his bounty services. Well I don't want to tell you the whole story, this oldie is a great one when I see it on cable I always watch it. The scenery in this film was probably one of the best ever when compared to other films during the 70's, this film was done in 1972. That's it for now you have to watch this film to complete the whole conclusion, I don't give films away in my reviews. I try to be as vague as possible. Clint Eastwood has always made a great western. Along with all of the other great actors who joined him to do this production. It was filmed at the Old Tucson Studios back about 1972. One of my favorite places to visit. This western is one of his better achievements.

I bought the the movie about three weeks ago or so. It was a good movie.. I have always like old western movies...Clint Eastwood stars as the title character in this low-key, moderately politicized variation of his spaghetti Westerns... Other actors staring in the movie Dick Van Patten, Don Stroud, John Saxon, Robert Duvall, Stella Garcia.... JOE KIDD should have been much better, as it is somewhat hamstrung by an Elmore Leonard script that seems bored with its characters. That said, Duvall and Eastwood are excellent, as is Bruce Surtees' camerawork.
Great movie! Disc was like new. We really enjoyed watching it.
