3rd. one I've owned. FOR CARBURETED SYSTEMS ONLY
This is a generic review of this style of Carter pump. I bought this one to use as a fuel transfer pump, and it works great for that purpose. Of course it's much slower than a real purpose-built transfer pump, but it's also a lot cheaper. In years past I have used these for a 1973 Fiat 128 and a 1975 GMC Suburban 454 used for pulling a heavy travel trailer. In both cases they performed flawlessly and never had a problem. I have also helped a couple of friends install them, and they were happy with the performance. They run quietly except when they are running empty, and then they get a bit noisy until they fill with fuel and are under a load. The neoprene isolation bushings provide good sound isolation. Since the motor and bearings run submerged in gasoline, the fuel provides cooling and lubrication for the pump and motor, so I would avoid letting it run dry for extended periods. DO NOT use any electric fuel pump in any automotive application without an oil-pressure-activated or other type of safety switch that will automatically and reliably shut off the pump when the engine quits running. In an accident, the last thing you, or your passengers, or the police, or the EMTs, or Good Samaritans, or the firefighters, need is for you to be trapped unconscious or immobilized inside a wrecked vehicle with a fuel pump that keeps pumping fuel out through broken fuel lines.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Excellent Electric Fuel pump
This fuel pump will work with all the older cars & trucks with the low pressure systems (before Fuel Injection). It is very easy to install and will give you MANY YEARS of service. I've used them before and they are of excellent quality. They are very well built and has a name that all good mechanics will recognize. Powerfull, robust and reliable.
This pump replaced a similar one that had been on my Alfa Spider for 15 years and was damaged by debris in the road. The car has Webers. It works much better than the more expensive Facet bendix type pump but it is important to also install a good quality regulator to control the pressure at 2.5 to 3 psi. CARTER FUEL PUMP, it is quite noisy, it makes more noisy than my open exhaust buggy engine, w/ a turbo, it does NOT say Carter on it, Is it a Carter?
It works fine EXCEPT for the NOISE, MY OLD CARTER WAS NOT REAL NOISY. How do I know if it is a CARTER? It is mounted the same way that the old one was mounted, the pump is mounted in rubber but the mounting bracket is NOT. Carter p4070 fuel pump is working well
2 days after install the pump is working well. Jeep starts easily and idles smooth. Acceleration is also smooth. Many people have talked about how loud it is, but I found it to be the quietest of any pump I have used. The previous pumps I have used lasted only 4-5 months.
