About this product

Product Information

Pushing dual-band Wi-Fi of 600N + 1300AC Mbps, you can experience fast, reliable connections over the D-Link DIR-880L Wireless Router while also taking advantage of the four gigabit Ethernet ports for LAN or advanced networking. Three external antennae allow for advanced beamforming, which means that the router tracks the location of connected devices and actively focuses the signal toward them for gigabit speeds at long ranges. This combines with band steering, a system that distributes traffic to provide smart bandwidth management to avoid broadcast interference and congestion from other devices. That gives the user a dynamically managed system that responds to changing conditions for an optimal Wi-Fi connection.Ever attempting to recognize the value of simple systems, the DIR-880L has an easy-to-use remote management system that lets you control of the system from the comfort of a tablet or smartphone. The DIR-880L has everything needed to provide peace of mind in regard to your network security. The L2TP over IPSec VPN server support provides secure remote connections, and an advanced parental control helps keep the kids in line. You can provide an override password to allow them to work extra late on school projects while capping their online access at bedtime on most other nights. On the wireless side, WPA and WPA2 security help shield your internet from strange connections. While it features a number of systems that let you individually set rules as wanted, it is an intelligent device that sports its own dual-core processor. Using an advanced QoS system, it maintains an optimal distribution across the wireless bands to push maximum performance while also eliminating one of the biggest issues with older routers. Rather than arbitrarily prioritizing data streams, the D-Link DIR-880L selects the fastest Wi-Fi band for each connected device and prevents older devices from connecting on bands that they can not maximally use. With systems like this, D-Link not only provides premium hardware but optimizes the way in which its hardware is used to squeeze every last bit of performance out of the router. For those that are looking to have complete control over every aspect of the network, this is a DD-WRT open source router. Long gone are the days of terminal-only access, as this sports a smooth and responsive graphical interface that is easy to use right out of the box. As an open source system, users that are comfortable with modifying the firmware are readily able to customize the system. An additional benefit of the Linux-based system is the out of the box MyD-Link SharePort App, which is software that allows you to connect a USB hard drive directly to the router and use it as an internet connected storage device for personal cloud storage. For wireless devices connected to the network, you can share, stream, and easily move media around as needed. The other USB port can be used for additional storage or as a networked printer.

  • Where's the WPS?

So far after 2 weeks of using the router, I have had good performance. The range is good. I get full reception almost everywhere in my home. It looked brand new out of the non-labelled box. Now that I'm getting settled in my house I went to connect my wireless printer and, to my disappointment, found no WPS button to easily connect it. I also like the WPS option for when guest come over. Saves the headache of telling them my highly secure password. Other than that, I give it two thumbs up!

  • Strong WIFI coverage and reliable as router, but lacking as access point

This is very good as a WIFI Router which is presumably what 99% of buyers would use it for. After I bought it however, I found out that I was among the other 1% as I intended to use it only as a WIFI Access Point with DHCP disabled. When I researched this router before buying, I did not notice that it does not have a dedicated Access Point mode. SInce many D-Link routers have an Access Point mode, I wrongly presumed that the DIR-880L also has one. Well, it does not, and although I could configure it to work for my WIFI, its "cloud router" feature does not work because it thinks that it is not on the internet. Even the "Internet" LED light is off. Despite this, it still works to serve WIFI internet access. Also, the USB ports rely on the cloud feature to work, so my plan to connect an USB drive to the DIR-880L became futile. I guess the 99% of buyers who use this simply as a router will not see these problems. Good luck!

  • Why I Love D-Link Products

I have yet to find a reason not. Great support (no smart mouth I.t. person on the other end of the phone), great quality & reliability ! Coverage is great & handles all my devices quite well (16 computers, 2 streaming devices & my cloud security system) ! Don't even think you'll get by my security system, period (my hog leg is on the ready)! I found this router rather easy to setup with the auto i.p. configuration built in tools. You just have to set priority on which device you to have priority. I generally buy used equipment & do my own research on everything I buy. If you see a bad review on any product, make certain the reviewer doesn't have a ax to grind ! Take it from me, with nearly 30 years in the I.T. field, this router should fit quite well in your home or small office !

  • A Good Router

The router has all the necessary features of a dual channel router and provides a good signal level throughout the house from the upstairs bonus room. Being able to prioritize the connected devices is a useful feature. I would purchase again.

  • Quick Delivery - Product as advertised - good fast internet

Everything very good except, when installing it asks for password and after much searching I discovered that I supposed to leave it blank and hit enter. Very happy with product. Second one I have owned and it works great.

  • Great value

Bought it for its upgradeability to DD-WRT. Been running it with included software, which has performed well. Will likely upgrade it soon, as the last firmware update was October 2016. It certainly performs as advertised.
