About this product

Product Information

A PC that is equipped with this innovative Intel Pentium processor can unite great performance with everyday tasks. As is to be expected with the Intel brand, this CPU offers a tremendous amount of raw processing power, perfect for many high-performance computing tasks. These include video rendering, processing 3D graphics in drafting and modeling, and even gaming. It is also effective for simple web browsing and video chat. The two physical cores in this CPU run at 3.2 GHz, a speed that is ideal for running a few processing-heavy tasks or many smaller simultaneous tasks. Couple that with a fast bus speed, good memory capacity, and a reasonable 53W power requirement, and it makes for a good high-end PC component. With the Intel Pentium G3258, you get reliable PC performance that lets you communicate with friends and family, enjoy entertainment online, and make the most of music and photos. A cache of 3MB is markedly better than previous iterations of Intel processors, as is the faster bus speed. Additionally, this CPU supports Intel Extreme software, meaning you can easily overclock this processor to even faster clock speeds. Ordinarily, chips can only be boosted through the BIOS, so this software boosting capability is an added convenience. The dual-core G3258 can be boosted by greater than 4 GHz. Running high-demand programs and games is a breeze on an overclocked Pentium like this one. For entry-level desktop builds that have a minimal barrier to entry, this dual-core chip is a good, solid choice.Making a budget desktop build with CPUs such as this Pentium is quite simple. What's convenient about it is that it supports high-performance hardware, but can also run legacy components, consequently offering the best of both worlds. In particular, this Intel chip supports DDR3 memory, so it can run a variety of RAM sticks. As a part of the Haswell series of Intel chips, this Pentium also supports Direct3D and OpenGL, making it terrific for gaming and other high-intensity 3D applications. Although many gaming computer builds will require a separate GPU, the Intel HD graphics on these CPUs are capable of playing a few games, and can even support 2k resolutions natively. With this component in your build, expect benchmark results of more than 3 GHz and up to 4 GHz with overclocking. An Intel Pentium processor delivers the Intel level of performance you expect and quality you can count on. This model is certainly no exception to the high standards of this industry-leading manufacturer. Benchmarks of completed builds containing the G3258 run at impressively high clock speeds, not to mention the speed boosts possible with overclocking. The multiple core layout of this chipset ensures many different programs can run smoothly at the same time, and multiple displays are also supported. Since the G3258 has an LGA 1150 socket, it will work for a wide variety of motherboards. These include boards manufactured by Asus, MSI, ASRock, and Gigabyte, among others. In addition, these processors will work well with DDR3 memory from brands like Crucial, G-Skill, Corsair and Axiom.

  • An overclockable Pentium!

Firstly, this is a strictly dual-core CPU with no hyperthreading, but this is a fast dual-core CPU that you can overclock. The processor, before overclocking, is good on it's own. It is low power-consumption and has good instructions per-clock. This is a great CPU for mini-itx builds or HTPC's and a stock Intel CPU cooler is more than enough and will stay quiet. This CPU will run some AAA games--you'll need to research what games have issues with only two cores/two threads. Many games really don't need core/thread count, but certain games have reported issues. If you have a socket 1150 motherboard and are looking for a budget ~$40-50 CPU to play games on, I'd advise a Haswell-generation Pentium, like this one, over an FX series AMD processor. HOWEVER If you haven't purchased a motherboard, yet, I'd advise purchasing an Ivy-Bridge i5 - something like an i5 3470 for about $10-$15 more. This is a true quad core with similar IPC performance that doesn't warrant the worry of dual-core issues in modern games.

  • Pentium 20th Anniversary Edition

Pros: 54w TDP Unlocked Processor High Overclock Potential Built on 22nm Technology Inexpensive ($50-70 price range) Cons: DDR3-1333 support only Dual-Core only No HyperThreading No AVX Support Shaky Windows 10 Support Other Thoughts: This processor may be based on Haswell however it's not a Core i7. Don't think that it can't harass a Core i7 in a few benchmarks, because it does strangely. This processor can be overclocked to about 4.5 GHz reliably; 4.7 GHz with some samples. I guess yields of some chips do vary, if you're lucky to get one that can reach this frequency. Mostly aimed at professional overclockers as no one will run this chip at stock frequency. I was able to reach 3.7 GHz without touching the voltage settings. I don't feel comfortable increasing the voltage as I don't want to damage the processor. What's not to like about this processor? An unlocked processor for $70... unheard of. Intel Corporation did an outstanding job creating this processor. Windows 10 will not run properly without modifications if you should choose to use this processor in your computer. For best results use Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1 with a configuration using this processor.

  • Waht a performance per dollar!

This CPU is great for casual web surfing and light gaming since it provides an excellent overclocking even with the provided cooler. It was just a few clicks to overclock it to 4.2 Ghz, and it makes the overall experience very snappy. If you don't need to run applications that demand parallel computations such as encoding video, then this CPU is a good candidate for your daily uses. Its power consumption is also very low like 35W ~ 70W for the system excluding monitor from my wall. Highly recommended.

  • Whats not to like

A fully unlocked CPU that you can overclock? Currently running it at 4.8GHz on a gigabyte motherboard, with a stock cooler. Under stress the temp never rises above 68 C Males for one fast little computer.

  • No Problems.

I bought this Processor as suggested from a $400 USD system build I did for my mother so she can play modern games. No Problems with the install on the MSI Intel LGA 1150 H81M-E33. Almost the perfect duo!

  • Cheap and packs a punch

This is my second system with this chip. Performs great for the price as well. I’d recommend that if get one to get a better fan. The stock fan performs but it could always be better.

  • Great Processor for a Great Price

This is just the second G3258 LGA 1150 Socket Processor that I have purchased and it's still giving me all the performance I expect out of it and more. If your looking for a Processor for your home for downloading Videos, Music or streaming Music or Videos and watching TV,doing Word Processing you can't go wrong with this Processor especially for the PRICE. My first G3258 Processor is still going strong and would expect the same performance and reliability from this one.

  • Intel G3258

Excellent processor .. plenty of speed and stability.. Its priced well too ..and it is an open processor that can be over clocked.. I do not advise over clocking..runs into high cost cooling and shortens the life of hardware.. This dual core will preform quite well in alot of games ,but don't kid yourself its not a quad core.. You can tune it ..but you may end up disappointed while playing modern games.. Most everyday users typical pc tasks wont be able to tell the difference between this CPU and multi core units which are expensive and use more power...thats for everyday tasks ..not gaming..
