mercury thermostats work great on older heating systems best
The house I live in had a thermostat with the Mercury in it and I fell against it moving stuff, well for almost 4 years I tried all those other kinds and the blower would stay running till I shut the thing off. the last one I found here on ebay worked great for 5yrs or so I had a trip on my cat at night and snapped it in half but still worked so I bought this one and it is working great. looks great and does what it is supposed to do.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Best manual thermostat
For my generation, this was the ubiquitous Honeywell thermostat on the wall. Extremely reliable, easy to read and operate. Heating and cooling or heating only. Unfortunately, the modern day Honeywell thermostats are no where near the quality of these "relics." Due to environmental regulations, the mercury is no longer used as the main switch component. Finding one these days is a bit of a challenge. Make sure all the parts are included before buying. Old School is the Best
I purchased this thermostat to replace a fancy, wifi, touch screen model recently installed in my home as part of my new central A/C system. That thing never worked right from the get-go and it was beyond frustrating to deal with. It wasn't properly calibrated, wouldn't stay connected to my wifi network, the "touch" part of "touch screen" didn't always work right and getting assistance from customer service was impossible. This Honeywell T87F 2873 NoS unit is chock full of mercury and has Cool, Off, Heat, On and Auto. It works perfectly...end of story. Who needs High Tech???
Just what the doctor ordered for a wife that can't sleep because of the constant clicking of the newer style thermostats. Simple and it works well. Who needs high tech? Why did they ever stop making these? Oh yeah, Mercury. Inappropriate comments about the EPA would probably be discouraged so I'll refrain. Replaced digital thermostat with simpler design
We had a similar thermostat in our mid century home in the living room that had reached the end of it's life, and had replaced it a few years ago with a digital honeywell. The digital thermostat required batteries. Rechargeable batteries did not last long in it. In time felt it did not offer us anything more than this simple thermostat did. This color is perfect in our living room and there is a dial around it that looks almost like little jewels. It would have been helpful to have had instructions as to the wiring.
